I was 18. In fact, SiliconFinance.net was the domain. Hence my screen name SiliconFinance. No, I didn't want to finance breast enhancement surgery for young females. I was thinking more along the lines of a venture capital firm that provided capital to young startups. That was before the Internet bubble burst the first time and at a time when all I did was check stocks online. It was the most fascinating thing to a finance major in college especially since you could own your own stock and manage it online. Today, that seems ridiculous, but back then the online stock sites had barely even gotten started.

How old were you and what was the significance of the domain you purchased?

The first dot com I registered was in 99, when I was 16 years old. The domain was intended for my personal homepage.

EDIT: I love this topic. Thanks for starting this topic Silicon :) Old memories....my first domain 1999....my first homepage 1996/97 (DIABLO cheats/trainers site hosted with old XOOM.COM)....my first PC (Intel pentium powered 133MHz, 8MB of RAM, 1.2 GB Harddisk, Combo sound card with modem of 28.8KBps, old video card with 2MB of memory.....)

But many years earlier i got the idea that domain names could be a great money making business, but havent start at time. But in my country even today 99% of people dont know what domain is, and 99,5% dont know that you can sell domain name and make a nice money.

now I feel like an old bag - I was 41 - but better late than never :D
When domains were free and 2 letter .com's were in abundance,
I never even knew what a domain name was

lol My first was free. It was for a personal site. It looked terribly ugly but I was about 17 and damn proud of that piece of crap. It was nytechyldsasylum.com. As bad as it was, it paved the road to the first I actually bought, OzzyAsylum.com (I was 18 I think). It was a big Ozzy Osbourne site but I neglected it a lot :(

11. I was still clueless about domains back then - I ended up paying (IIRC) ยฃ9 for the domain's registration (so $17.50) - and it was only a ".co.uk"!! Heh :P
