I guess that all depends on the name itself and the market to which your domain is aimed at.

Personally, if I had a product aimed at both maybe US and UK and the .com was taken I would choose the .co.uk over the .net and aim my product at the UK. But, like I said, it all depends on your domain/product.

The question about value of .net, like the above it all depends on the name. You could 'try' and catch a dropped LLL.net and sell for low xxxx. Or you could register an ok .net and sell for low xxx. Everything depends on the name itself and the market its aimed at.

.com = commercial
.net = network
.org = organisation (organization US) ha

for a general end-user non-internet business the .co.uk extension is the way to go either choice 1 or choice 2 for most companies and some don't even bother with the .com
.....for domaining I think both .co.uk and .net are tricky compared with .com

This is always a well argued over issue :).

In your specific case i'd take the .co.uk because I like the extensions strength in the UK but as has been indicated, .co.uk is best suited to a national rather than international project. .co.uk's also have somewhat harder to determine values imho.

When the .com is not free, I've ended up taking major .nets though in one of my lists i'm buying up in addition to .co.uk but only on big generic terms, otherwise I stick with .co.uk when it makes sense as a national second choice. Its a heavily debated subject though and I don't think anyone has a silver bullet answer for you.
