No, unless you wanna develop it. But it wouldn't hurt to reg. .org isn't an expensive extension.

this "thinker" or perhaps a philosopher...

what biz model would you build around the name to monetize?

It's possible those 50k monthly searches came from grade school students trying to fill-up some homework. Maybe worth 0.02 cents per click from ads.

I thought the same thing when considering regging certain historical groups, events, or aboriginal groups of North America that no longer exist. Although the words may be right, it will not make money. As alien51 said, school children searching.

Do you have enough passion to write an extensive website full of original content? Otherwise, I would stay away. My mistake might save you a few bucks. Never assume that since its a famous name or short or unique that someone will come to buy it, especially in this economy.

If you can commercialize it, go for it. Other than that, I can't imagine how you would obtain ppc.

being available and being worth money are two comepletely different things

the advice is 'perhaps rethink' the domain name as valuable ??

Thank you all for the replies !!

I figured that most of the searches were coming from students, but not elementary, atleast undergrads...

what i tought i could do is disponibilize the free content of his books for download, along with stories, biography, a pretty generic site with links to ebay or something to buy his work. perhaps some adsense.

and i think the .org fits the domain well...

Save your money and buy a better domain. You'll be glad you did!

That's actually the "usual" business-model for minisites.

Since this is about a "historical" person, this means you are not obliged to put "fresh content" on your website on a regular basis. It's more like a Wikipedia replica.... build-and-forget. You build the site for 2 days, then forget about it.

Your problem is: I'm not sure if there are really advertisers out there who are targetting your Mr. Thinker to sell ads plastered on sites like that. You could end up displaying ads about ringtones and Bible ads that pay 0.02 cents per click. And since these ads are not related to your domain, people won't even click your 0.02-cent banner ad.

And finally, you can ponder whether people will actually buy e-books written by Mr. Thinker, which people can get somewhere else for free. If this is a famous historical person, I'm sure his works are already available as public archives??

In the end, you might not even be able to recover the 11 bucks you paid for that domain. Let alone profit from it.

yes, a lot of it is available online for free, but me, for example, i would prefer the book in hands.
anyway, i think it wouldn't be worth much of my time by all that you said. thank you very much again for the replies.
