How would you handle buyer leads for a domain name?
I have a good lead who is interested in a domain I owned for a week, before I used my grace period on it. I contacted many related companies, none emailed me back quick enough, so I let the name go (dumb me lol).

Months later I recieved an email from an interested buyer I contacted..who wants to know the selling price. Would you contact the current domain owner and try to get a deal with them if the domain sells through the lead you give them? How would you handle such a situation?

Should I create paperwork that the current owner should agree to if the lead does want to buy the name? So the owner doesn't try to cheat me?

You're on the right track.. Make a contract stating your commission for providing the lead. If it's big money then get a lawyer...

I'm sure the current owner if also a domainer would love to sell it...

Personally, I would probably contact the current owner and offer to broker the deal for a finder's fee of something mutually agreeable. You retain the lead's name and ensure all the contact is funneled through you.

ripley.
