How do you guys handle Buyers Remorse? Essentially When a buyers buys a name and for whatever reason wants their money back. In this particular case, $600. They paid me $600, then realized I paid about $30 and emails me with a sob story about having kids to feed, and her hubby disapproving of the purchase. And if I do not take the name back, they will open a dispute with Paypal, saying it was a fraud and requesting their money back.

Love to hear your two cents..

I would tell them that business is business! You havent committed Fraud, so dont worry about it.

If you want to do something offer them $100 or something back as a gesture of goodwill but you dont need to give them anything you havent done nothing wrong!

Paypal will understand might be a pain having the funds on hold but still keep all emails and communications with them as proof. They agreed to buy a name at a certain price, so you have done any fraud!

Thats my two cents...

I have this posted on my website where I sell my domain names.

Do you offer refunds?

If a name cannot be transferred for any reason a full refund will be returned. Once a name is transferred refunds are not available.

Are you sure buyer was female and the story is right ? Maybe do an whois to see whom the name belongs to now..

Judging by her email keywords. Says "my husband", "3 kids", name is Svetlana.

Once the transaction is complete you've done your due diligence and they've done theirs. The domain won't be sold for less so there's no reason for her to ask for a refund based on your purchase price. If Rick paid 100k for Candy.com did the many offers he received ever get him to lower his price to less even when they knew what he paid? Time is money, and you already spent it. Every minute you spend negotiating after a sale is complete will lower your profit margin.

I'm not saying don't be nice, but if they are playing stupid don't also be stupid.

Okay, very true. Quick question though. Wouldn't it be better to contact Paypal before
the other party does and forward all correspondence. Or wait it out. Wait for the other
party to make their move.

I dont think it's anywhere near a lawyer stage, but I do have one.

I don't like blackmail. Keep all correspondence with that person, including their threats. If he/she decides to open a dispute hopefully paypal will side with you.

Kids come first :)

She's trying it on, no one buys a domain before feeding there kids.

Like kate said, keep all emails, just incase.

Ive never had a customer come back like this. Its just bizarre. I would politely explain to them that as a business, once a domain name is sold, its sold. Your not a department store that can offer its customers no questions asked returns. Your a sole-proprietor.

If they have no proof of fraud going on, especially in this case, then there is nothing to worry about. As sad as the story sounds it could be made up or the person just feels they want the name back.

I have had someone try to do something similar to me with a larger amount. They filed a case and paypal never even looked at it because there was no evidence. Basically them just whining and saying that i cheated them.

On another note - why are you using Paypal for a transaction this size with a buyer you have no history with?....

It's not a fortune though. I'm sure most people can survive after such a loss.

If this was paid via Paypal, isn't it their policy not to award "cashbacks" for intangible items. I'm pretty sure a domain can qualify for that.

In any case, what she's trying to do is immoral and likely illegal, and her email give you all the proof you need to defend yourself and keep the money which is rightfully yours anyway.

Wouldn't it be better to contact Paypal before the other party does and forward all correspondence.
I don't think you'd have much to gain from making the first move, but, on the other hand, it can't hurt either. Personally, I'd wait it out.

"Hello,

You have chosen to escalate this dispute to a PayPal claim. By ending
communication with the buyer, you are asking PayPal to investigate the case
and decide the outcome. As part of our investigation, PayPal reviewed any
communication you may have had with the buyer in the Resolution Center.

We have received a complaint from a buyer who stated that merchandise you
sent them did not match your original description. The buyer is disputing
the quality of goods associated with the transaction detailed below.

As you may already be aware, PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy applies only
to the shipment of goods and not to complaints about the attributes or
quality of goods received through an off eBay transaction. Therefore, we
will not conduct an investigation into this matter at this time.

We do, however, reserve the right to begin an investigation within 180 days
if we determine it is necessary."

Based on the claim, this is rubbish. I wish you the best of luck.

Reality: If she opens a paypal dispute you lose the money and the domain.

Offer a refund minus a restock fee but she must push domain back FIRST. That's important. Say...20% restock? Then refund her. Heck the 20% might get her to just keep it.

If she disputes the charge almost nothing you say will allow you to keep the money. Paypal does not protect sellers of intangible goods at all.

Thanks. She opened the dispute. My money was still there and I cleared it all out with the
exception of just a little over $1k. Hopefully I'll be okay. I'm not too worried. It should be all
resolved soon. Thanks!
