How do I proceed?

There's a domain name that's currently On hold in the Redemption Period. It doesn't look like it will be renewed (obviously). It's with Enom.

I'd like to pick up this domain name. While it's possible someone else might go after it, I think it's unlikely as there isn't anything special about the domain. So i'll have little to no competition to pick this up.

What'd be the best way to go about acquiring the domain?

Backorder it and wait for it to drop. (Snapnames, Pool, etc.)

Likely no one else will get it when it goes to auction. But don't be too sure no one else will go after it because sometimes, you'd be surprised at how several people can be interested in a domain you're sure you're the only one finding relevance for.

If you really think no one will go after it, or you don't want to pay the backorder fee, you can just watch for it and when it drops you can register it.

To help me with this, I use the Domain Monitor feature at DomainTools.com. It's free and will tell you each time the status of the domain changes. If the sharks have not sniffed out your domain, you will get an email fairly quickly (but not super quick!) that has let me know and then register several domains.
