I see sellers advertising high total Google search results as being something good for a keyword domain.
The truth is exactly the opposite!

A high search return count means lot of competition for that keyword and much lower chance of ranking well for that keyword.
If you have millions of webpages containing your domain's keyword showing up in a google search, that is BAD.
It will be very very difficult to even show up in the top 100 results for searches containing that keyword, nevermind page 1 which will be near impossible.

Ideally, you want the highest number of global and local searches, and a very LOW number of webpages showing up on searches for that keyword.

Then you have lots of people searching on that keyword with little competition to rank high on Google.

Agree? Disagree?

...depends on the keyword whether it's a good thing or bad, nothing black or white about it really.

if that were true then all the top generic terms couldnt be given away and there would be a rush on things like domain-registrations-cheap.tv.

how many like this do you own?

I agree in a sense with what your are saying. Your argument makes sense in terms of ranking. But in terms of value, I'm not so sure:

Would you rather have ball.com vs. skatecycle.com.

It really depends on the domains, but I wouldn't always agree with your argument.

I am not saying that generics are not worth a lot of money. Many are.

What i am saying is that the fact that millions of webpages contain that generic keyword does not make the domain name more valuable.
If anything, the intense competition makes it somewhat more difficult to get traffic and use Google AdSense advertising to monetize that domain with Google search traffic. The value for a developer looking only to monetize traffic (most developers) is not improve because the keyword when search returns "22,000,000" google results. If anything, that fact make it harder to make money developing that domain. Not impossible, just harder.

It is partly true, when some domainers look at "results" in terms of development potential they are looking at the wrong end of the camel, should be looking at "searches". The time when results does come into play though is in terms of selling the domain to companies already naming themselves with that term.

It will be very very difficult to even show up in the top 100 results for searches containing that keyword, nevermind page 1 which will be near impossible.

I've never developed a .tv domain so I can't speak for that. but generally the above is not true. If there is "millions" of results without the " " that isn't a lot. The number of people actually making a serious attempt to try to get ranked on the term will generally not be a lot.

If anything, the intense competition makes it somewhat more difficult to get traffic and use Google AdSense advertising to monetize that domain with Google search traffic.

You have to question the logic on that model in the first place. I think many people do make it work right now though. I wouldn't hold high hopes for the future of it though.

If you personally are trying to develop a site which will be monetized with Adsense, millions of search results would be bad because you won't make a dime if you are one page 25000 of Google for that phrase. But the term might have so many results because it is so popular and might make for a great brand for a company with either the resources to overcome the competition for that phrase or which plans to use the domain in search marketing campaigns to sell products, services or for lead generation. In that case, the short brandable domain might influence click through rate favorably or at least the results competition would be a nonissue.

I see sellers advertising high total Google search results as being something good for a keyword domain. The truth is exactly the opposite!

High total Google search results equals good domain name is generally true for most of the domains.

For example:

As we already know that 'leather bag' keyword is more valuable than 'green leather bag', search results also prove the point.

leather bag: 53,900,000 results

green leather bag: 1,500,000 results

You can take more such cases and in most of the cases, high total search results equals good keyword and therefore good domain name.

Taking another extreme example, if you take word 'sdjajsjjkdjaksdjk' (junk keyword), there are no search results and therefore it is easy to rank it on page one of Google. But would anybody want to rank for this word which has no competition. Therefore no competition or less competition also most of the time makes them not worth ranking even if they are easy to rank from SEO point of view. This is obviously because there is little money.
