I know that we have got months ago Elequa' s great participation in the discussions, recently we have got Brokerage.tv 's reaction, I would love -and I am sure I am not the only one here- reading from our big brothers having large .tv portfolios what they think of the current .tv market, where the extension is standing now, what are the perspectives, whether they still invest in .tv names, do they get offers, how they maintain their first class portfolio, whether they see today an increase in their ppc click, what they think about premium reg fees, whether they believe development of iptv technology for the .tv domains to gain in popularity and receive higher sums on aftermarket... so many questions... I guess their professional input and the sharing of their experience, their guidance would be very much enjoyed here. Maybe I am again a bit naive, business is business, everybody keeps his own business secrets, but every community needs its own models or kinda gurus to follow, learn and benefit from. I guess we are all sticked to past and recent .tv sales and stucked to what could happen next week, I know this is part of the game but at this stage and I am speaking for myself as newb, even if no one can predict the future I need today a bit of light, a direction, to better understand, plan, invest or ... (nooo !) give up.
Hey big brothers come on and show us the way ! :)

Well, we bought our first domain on the live domain AUCTION in 2000 when .TV was selling every domain for the "best" price they can get

We knew that in 5 years we either will hit a jackpot or be very stupid

The mistake was only NUMBER OF YEARS!

EVERY DAY we get tons of e-mails asking prices for many of .tv domains we have registered 6 years ago

THE RIGHT PRICE IS STILL NOT THERE, BUT IT IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the years we have sold several domains in low 5 figures range and just recently 1 domain for a high 5 figures....

The only advice we have for you guys is YOUR PARKING PAGES MUST look good!

many many of our .TV domains are monetizing very well!

see examples

www.football.tv
www.bride.tv
www.chess.tv
www.xxx.tv

We also coming out shortly with a special domain spinner just for .TV domains

see example for .com's here www.DomainTrafficBooster.com

You are welcome to put any comments or ask any questions

Hello Domainspa.

Thank you for your comments. Two follow-up questions.

1. Could you give us some sense of how well your high-monetizing .tv names are doing?

You do not have to tell us specifics about specific names if you do not like, but could you share a range in terms of daily uniques/clicks/$ that your average high-end .tv names are doing?

2. Do you see the .tv names moving more to a .com-like parking model or moving to video development? What types of buyers are out in the market today? (holders of domain portfolios, media companies, corporations, etc)

All thoughts are very welcome!
Thanks!

Thank you so much Igal for joining this .tv dedicated forum !!! We know you very well for reading so often your name in the Whois re. .com and .tv first class names.

If I may ask you, what was your first .tv name ?

Could you tell us about what made your attraction for .tv names in 2000 ?

Your portfolio : what is your % balance .tv vs .com and other tlds ?

You mention that you have sold several names over the last years, were they names related to the tv/entertaining industry ? Do you think it is worth investing in such related names than in other generic keywords just because of the .tv extension ?

It seems that 'many' .tv sales are made through private transactions, therefore not reported/publicized, can you confirm it and maybe explain why such discretion ?

I am sure that other .tv members have many questions for you, I give them the floor till my next bunch.

Well Igal you certainly got a steal with KIDS.tv, and I think your pages at DOmainspa look great but when I tried domainspa there is so much traffic you don't pay for, I found DOMAINSPA too difficult to work with. For example I own 111.tv It gets 20 to 30 aday at Fabulous and I get clicks from .20 to $1.20 This is mostly Japanese traffic which I think you would not even pay. I love your pages look though. SIX.tv makes $5 aday But I don't think a super looking page would matter there it is just a number. I know you had the parking business from DOT TV for awhile now they switched to revenue direct(dotster) DID you see a high CTR when they were with you?

Hello Argos,

Great post because you got a response from "MrsJello" who's reply I respect and agree with 100%. I remember posting on this forum not so long ago listing some of my dottv names and I also remember promising to write a rather long post explaining why I have invested in so many dottv domains and why I am 100% certain the dottv domain extension will eventually replace .com has the most valuable and sought after domain extension of all time, however, I have decided not to post my thoughts on this forum and will instead post on one of my own websites very soon to which I will invite you to review. All I can say at this point is you have made the right decision when you chose to invest in the dot tv domain extension. I am still purchasing as many viable dottv domains as I can get hold of with my lastest being "wakefield.tv" which I purchased last night. I would also like to mention I have received interest from on of the biggest players in the domain industry to purchase my entire portfolio which is in the hundreds and consists primarily of dot tv's but for obvious reasons I cannot give details but I will say that if I ever did sell my dottv domains I would NEVER make the sales public.

Regards,
Ree

Hello Guys!

Its really great to see a group of .TV fans!

Took a long time to get to this point...

There were several topics brought up
I will try to answer to the best I can

1. Could you give us some sense of how well your high-monetizing .tv names are doing?

a. ANY financial related .TV domains do as well as .COM when it comes to CPM, but with less traffic

b. many adult domains have TYPE-IN traffic (xxx.tv, adult.tv,erotica.tv etc)

our average CPM here is $25.00

2. Do you see the .tv names moving more to a .com-like parking model or moving to video development? What types of buyers are out in the market today? (holders of domain portfolios, media companies, corporations, etc)

a. Regardless of the fact that .TV is pushing multimedia applications, .TV domains ALREADY being used as .coms when people can't find a good one cheap

examples: WE.tv, coolhunters.tv etc

try entering - shop site:.tv - in google search box

3. If I may ask you, what was your first .tv name ?

.TV was conducting a live auction for ANY domain
there were enough crazy people like us who were bidding for N.TV.....

4. Could you tell us about what made your attraction for .tv names in 2000 ?

Now its really stupid, but .... DID NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT .COMS....

did not do a GOOD DEEP research once found that majority of single word .com's are gone and did not find a treasure of 2 words .com's....

It was a mistake that costed a LOT of money and it is NOT a home run yet after 6 years

5. Your portfolio : what is your % balance .tv vs .com and other tlds ?

about 10%

6. You mention that you have sold several names over the last years, were they names related to the tv/entertaining industry ? Do you think it is worth investing in such related names than in other generic keywords just because of the .tv extension ?

So far sales were related to Entertainment industry

Investment in TV - Yes, but NOT at the premium renewal prices!!!!!!!

ONLY in $50 domains - PLENTY AVAILABLE!

7. It seems that 'many' .tv sales are made through private transactions, therefore not reported/publicized, can you confirm it and maybe explain why such discretion ?

Yes, majority of an early .TV buyers are very discreet people and do not have a need to publish their "moves"

8. DomainSpa parking

User interface was changed to adapt to other parking services

BUT!!! if we would pay double versus others, the user interface would not be a "problem"!

There are several "challenges" that we have and this is why many prefer to use other parking services

1. We came to this industry NOT from a domain business and we have started with a ZERO traffic

2. Not a single 1st tier PPC vendor accepted us (including eSpotting in Europe)
we had to start with a second tier vendors providing a low ppc and CPM

even by giving the 100% of the ppc revenue, we would be at 50% payout in comparison to others

We have succeeded to "cut the gap" using our technology and we were only 30% lower in payouts even though our PPC was 4 to 5 times lower!!!!

CURRENT SITUATION
--------------------
a. we do not have a GOOGLE feed that is DOMINATING PPC INTERNATIONALLY

our ppc suppliers do NOT have advertisers in many countries where google does have!

Parking service is like a Tax Collector - WE ONLY CAN PAY ON WHAT WE GET PAID!

Many .TV domains receive INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC from countries NOT covered by our providers!

b. Because of our weak position in negotiating the initial contract, our discount from vendors is at least 20% less than many others

c. we make up on much better CONVERSIONS, but not enough to compete on earnings only

d. we do have customers who are with us for over 2 years because they

MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE AND MAKE MUCH MORE ON DOMAIN SALES!
our parking pages are the best and attract buyers!!!

Its getting more and more costly to buy TRAFFIC DOMAINS, but NEW people are getting in to the domain field who are looking to buy generic domains

GoDaddy goes public at $200M.....
iREIT.com - buys domains
Marchex - buys domains...

YOU MUST BUY DOMAINS CHEAP and even if they do not make money to be able to SELL!

Here some of the tools we use

www.domainsearchbar.com
www.iBoogie.com

Hope this helps

did you know that .TV is the main extention for adult sites in Europe?

did you know that many adult .tv domains get a REAL TYPE-IN traffic?

Had not noticed that, why is it that it developed that way, I wonder?

First of all, thanks for sharing your information with us!

MrsJello said:

Didn't know, but nice to hear, I see more and more adult sites advertising with .tv names in Holland, even my mysex.tv gets traffic.

MrsJello said:

If I may ask, why not premium names?
Personally I think it is much better to go for a few premium names instead of a lot of normal reg fee ones, also most nice one word .tv names are gone and there are still reasonable priced premium ones available (for example, I got series.tv and dogs.tv for 250/year each and me.tv, brazil/brasil.tv and fly.tv for 1,000 each, of course a lot of money, but IMO definitely worth it and not easy to replace with normal reg fee names).
Your opinion on this is appreciated.

What is your opinion on internet and tv becoming "one", do you think that will happen? Is it necessary that this happens for the .tv extension to become totally accepted?

My last question, in your opinion where does .tv stand in 5 years from now? Second to .com? Or still behind .net, .org and .biz?

Thanks, John.

BTW Congrats with your purchase of kids.tv, think you have a great buy on that one. Do you have any plans with that one?

we bought .tv in 2000

it is 2006 and even though it is more popular, it is still not there!

it will take another 3 to 5 years

.com is NOT replaceable and ... who cares what is number 2!

its the famous question: who was the 1st guy who stepped on the moon?

who remebers the second?

Buying a domain with a renewal of $1000 is a fixed amount of income to .... Verisign

Igal I am lost are you saying premiums not worth regging? Will you be letting yours drop? I see some unregged LLL.tv parked with domain spa wow FUK.tv Looks like a real site nice job

And . tv does not need to replace .com nor willit for it to be a great extension where the right investors will make good money Selling to the right end users. SO SO .tvs are not worth the money better to own two great .tv then 30 so so IMO

This is confusing me now, you are trying to say premium reg.'s are not worth it.

I also don't like the idea of premium prices, but if I make good money with these premium names, I will actually start loving those people at Verisign :)

On a side note, I (together with many others) were late in this market, if all premium .tv names were normal reg fee, they would all be gone, the pricing system of Verisign (how silly or not liked it can be), made it that those premium names would still be available, John.

For, say, a $1,000 premium .tv, held for six years, you could, instead, purchase 6 $1,000 .coms. So, which has the better chance of giving you the best return for your money, one $1,000 .TV - that costs an additional $1,000 every year - or six $1,000 .coms that cost a total of, say, fifty bucks to renew....

I think there are a lot of opportunities to be had with the standard reg fee .tvs, but the structure set up by verisign sucks all the profit incentive out of registering premium .tv domains.

•••
The type of name you will get for $1000 in .tv will be far superior to the $1000 .com you will buy in the aftermarket. IMO I mean SIX.tv makes $1000 a year in PPC I would not begetting a .com for the $500 it cost to reg six.tv I would not be getting it making $1000 a year for $5000
