Let say I am the owner of twitter.com, facebook.com and youtube.com. Is it wise to host them on one IP and on one dedicated server? Reason, I am building some related sites and I do not think I can afford to host them separately when they start getting traffic.

yeah use the same ip

its very hard to get traffic! unless you hit it big with pr! press release!

Otherwise, stay with what you have and upgrade as you grow!

You could put them on one dedicated server but you will find that your "youtube" like site will start to slow down the other 2 sites.

I also wouldn't enter this industry unless you have a twist to your project for example instead of a normal youtube site, have one based on your hobby for example SportsTube etc.

If you create a normal YouTube site I think you will find it been a waste of money.

Good luck though.

look into starting small, maybe a VPS then look into clustering or at least DNS clustering.

Then you could slowly upgrade to multiple dedicated servers and maybe also have them also clustered.

I suppose that such web sites are needed at least half a rack of the server to be hosted there.
