hi
i have few domains i would like to develop as mini sites and am thinking add it them all as addon domains might be too much for the server or might experience some load problem with the same ip for all sites dilema aswell.

so i think about dedicated server but the thing is i never try a dedicated server before (only shared ) ,so in your experience do yu think i better off with a shared or dedicated server?

also will i be able to have seperate ip for the sites if on dedicated ?

am not fully techy just know my way, and the domain will be some mini sites some little store and some might be forums or social net .

is a mixture of all kind.

any suggestion will be very appreciated.

thx in advance

In all honesty, unless you're getting 1 million plus page views per month, you wouldn't need dedicated.

My main forums gets 2.5 million page views per month and only needs to be on a VPS (with 448 MB memory).

If you do go for a VPS, I'd suggest to go with KnownHost (they offer fully managed services when you order a control panel via them). Full management would be best in your case :)

You can assign different IPs to different domains, yes. :)

My suggestions would be:

VPS: KnownHost.com
Dedicated: SoftLayer.com

However if you don't get much traffic, maybe a shared would be best for you?

I use to have a few boxes with SoftLayer.com, four I think. I recently switched over to colocrossing.com and don't have anything bad to say.

I would also recommend posting you requirements in the market place, and see what everyone has to offer.

My bet is:
for a VPS\dedi: ServerPoint.com and VPSlink.com.
Both companies provide them a lot with tech personnel of high quality. Price range is flexible depending on the specs of a VPS\dedi.

As tristanperry noted you can find really good managed windows servers and vps. My current host server intellect will install patches, update windows and run scans for me each month or week if requested. I have a CP (HELM) installed to manage my hosting accounts so I don't have to manually add them via ISS. You will pay a bit more for managed but it is worth it to have basically a full staff to fix and keep your vps/dedicated server secure. When you do purchase a managed server make sure you read the fine print about support, as some companies will only support the basic windows install and not the other software you install. I think the best fact about a vps/server is you wont have to worry about your site getting shut down because someone else site has used all the resources on the server or is running a bad script.

As others have said I really doubt that you would need a Dedicated. A VPS is a maybe but overall I think you should be fine with a shared account. How many mini websites are we talking? What kind of traffic will these websites be receiving? Unless these are all mini discussion forums, I doubt you would require a VPS.

A fully managed VPS deal from a provider who will smoothly upgrades you once your needs grow is the best way to go.

If you decide to stay on the low budget, you may check asmallorange.com or microvps.com vps deals.

my advise is go with vps first until you have learned it, hire a temp staff to run it for you until you're familiar with it.

How many domain names are we talking? I don't think you'll even need a VPS right now unless there are quite a few. My initial suggestion (not knowing the answer to the above) would be to go with a reliable and non-oversold reseller package. I see a VPS as overkill right now and a dedicated should virtually be out of the question.
