I guess the world's fourth biggest company didn't get your memo
I do take Alphabet, the Google parent company, seriously.
I'm pretty sure they did! They've never really used the domain the entire time. I originally checked when it was announced however long ago, and it was just some superficial token message from the founders .. I just checked again now and it's the same non-website.
If Google took it seriously in any way they'd be using it .. at the moment they are not .. it's just a fun thing because the word Alphabet works with abc.xyz .. so it's more of a fun hack unique to them (and despite it being 10000x more suitable to them, they still do use it .. that should tell you more than any stat will).
I'm not saying .biz is great, nor that people should invest in .biz (I've made money with .biz BTW, but again, we're talking about
@Shaan Chopra's usage as an
end user, not as a domain investor), but at least with .biz potential users and clients know you want to be a business, so the TLD doesn't need to be as recognised as .com or .net, it just has to be recognised enough for people to know it's a domain, beyond that the .biz is self-explanatory (ironically even more so than .com).
.xyz the first big hurdle is that there are still going to be percentages of people who don't even know it's a web address .. then an equal challenge is knowing what it is. .xyz just seems like something random at the end of the alphabet .. maybe for fun blogs, or joke sites, or some small nobody who doesn't really have a real purpose or doesn't know what they're doing, etc etc.
Sure .. any amount of time and marketing could overcome those issues .. but why would you choose to start with such a colossal disadvantage compared to simply getting a half decent .com that everyone recognises and would have significantly less aversion to.
In my opinion using a .xyz is simply making a statement that you have specifically chosen to be unprofessional .. which certainly could be fine in a lot of cases .. but not when you want to sell domains to businesses.
Face the truth Bob ... .xyz.sucks ... lol
Mayyyyybe if he had the killer SLD Domains.xyz, I might think it was an overall strong and clear enough combined domain that it could overcome all the rest .. but otherwise as I said ... .xyz.sucks!
