Ok... so I bought 3 domains the other day between purchase and the owners request for the transfer codes from their registrar (namecheap)they entered expiry... know they won't release the codes until $35 per domain is paid for their renewal. They just flatly refuse even though my registrar says they can't because of the verisign/icann rule of 18 day grace period on .coms after expiration!
Any thoughts or advise guys and girls?

Jack.

Step 1. Pay $9 per domain to the seller and get the domains reactivated.
Step 2. Open a free namecheap account and have the domains pushed in your account
Step 3. Transfer to another registrar if you want to.

Well the OP mentions its 35$ per domain and not 9$.. Not sure if that is accurate though. How far down the expiry road are they? When did they expire?

promo,
At namecheap it is the regular registration fee to reactivate expired domains. So this is about $9. I have done this many times. It is very easy. See attached image.

That is weird.. Might that have changed after they opened their aftermarket?

Otherwise, OP, you have been mislead by your seller.

.....

the domians were purchased end of Oct, the after the purchase transaction between the seller and myself completed I purchased the transfers from my registrar.
The seller received the transfer request and transaction code from my registrar on the 2nd of Nov, when he then request the EPP codes from namecheap they denied the codes and to unlock because the domains expired 24 hrs earlier... Nov 1st!
I'm sorry but it diabolical and basically extortion.

I answered your question above. The seller can find this "reactivate domains" menu inside his namecheap account. you don't need to contact anybody. The seller will reactivate the domains himself for standard registration fee which is about $9.

as I initially said, ICANN prohibits registrars to prevent domain transfers in the expiration grace period so what they are doing is in fact illegal!

I paid for the domains, I paid for the transfers... now I should pay for renewals which would be free under the transfers I purchased!
Also, I would then have to leave them there for a further 60 days before moving them!

Well since you are asking for collective advice.. I would say go with Erdinc proposal. Ultimately it would entail the least hassle for you.
