Hello, Wanted your thoughts.Do you think that the recent problem with the last sedo mobi auction has tainted the mobi extension temporarily or should I say taken some momentum out of it??I've been noticing several names coming up for sale ,more than usual.I'm not sure if it's a temporary regrouping or just some folks are pissed off at the sedo problem and are thinning out.

Your thoughts on this.

Regards

I would say it has tainted Sedo, but not .mobi...if anything, it shows the high demand for the .mobi premiums and how much people consider them worth fighting for.

I agree with Dagersh. I dont see how it would hurt the extension. It is probably going to increase the demand for .mobi. I think it will only hurt Sedo. If a company messed up a .com auction it wouldnt mess up values of .com because of one auction, it might just hurt the reputation of the company who held the auction.

Exactly.

Plus, how can .mobi be tainted by any Sedo action or inaction at all?

Sedo is much more associated with .com and the other PC-based TLDs than with .mobi.

Sedo has never even allowed closing-soon .mobi domains on its front page - regardless of how high the price is, or how close to the end of the auction they are. And that's a conscious decision on their part, not an IT quirk.

I'm not saying the OP is not a valid question, tophatter: just that the answer has to be an emphatic Nein.

Hey, I'm just sparking some discussion.I have several mobi names & have nothing but positive views on my mobis.I wanted to hear peoples inner feelings about the extension and so far I'm glad there's no bailouts so far.

Regards

...

I know, I was just looking forward to a quietly productive week away from NP (since we didn't get the usual intensity of anti-mobi attacks that traditionally mark the end of each auction round), but if you give them any form of a negative thread subject they will come :)

On a more serious note, more sales in the secondary market now would be only natural (it was surprising that there was any secondary market at all while the Sedo premium auctions were ongoing in the last couple of months) but also a very good sign - for multiple reasons.

.mobi rep enhanced, imo (cos of the demand demonstrated - and the fight to keep them, or get them back).......Sedo...?....Big hit to their rep...

The present on going fiasco of the double auction at the moment will have actually been of benefit to .mobi (the publicity will out weigh any ill feeling from domainers).

Looking down the road though things could change if this did end up in court and everything came out into the public domain. (By everything I literally mean information that .mobi would definately class as confidential and secret - business agreements, internal emails and memos, etc., etc..)

The best thing mTLD could do now is to settle this matter quickly and sever their relationship with Sedo (although they might find this difficult if Sedo has something over them concerning the auctions).

But at present because of the publicity .mobi has gained more than it has lost. Sedo on the other hand have sunk beneath the waves and are struggling to surface, their silence is not helping them at all. Just my take on it.

Bald One, I haven't been in complete agreement with all your other posts; on this one, I feel you are "right on the nose". excellent evaluation of the situation. Rep added

I think it has stuffed up mobi a bit,

SEDO should have had better servers...

then we would ave seen a fair auction FIRST time around.

and the prices would have been high first time around I am guessing.

As above, the high prices have done more positive than the auction mess has done negative.

The interesting question is where Mtld will go, if not Sedo. Afternic? Snap? With all their problems Sedo is the industry leader. There is a comfort level with continuing to work with a company that you have worked with in the past.

I would lay even odds that Sedo finds some way to resolve most of the issues and after 4-6 months Mtld runs another auction set, or three, with Sedo. With better servers of course. It will be interesting to see if they stagger the end times, that will be an indication in my mind whether they are listening. Bet they do not.

I agree on this as well. SEDO's reputation is in question here....not DotMobi.
