Has Moniker improved in 2009?

I'm new to registering domain names.

I had heard Moniker used to be the best--until they were bought out in early 2008. I also read that what followed was a significant decline in service and overall quality of the company. What I was wondering is if that was a transient problem due to the new acquisition and integration by the new company that purchased Moniker.

Is Moniker now back doing things really well as they used to; is this a domain registrar worth going with for important domain names?

In advance, many thanks for everyone's time and comments.

Personally I find that more or less benign bugs have been plaguing the system for too many years. The interface is not too great either (IMO).

The problem is that the account managers cannot fix the bugs, they can just expedite things for you. If the system was more reliable they wouldn't have to cope with these issues.
I guess their focus is on the aftermarket today, the regular domain registration business (with raw margins of $1/domain) is not that profitable.

I know many members that love them but I personally do not use them as I have experienced bad customer support in the past

Thanks all

Appreciate the responses. Many thanks....

Moniker used to be known for being a top company: support and in the fact they maintained great security of domain names. This last point is what I was interested in. I don't have a number of domain names. I own two companies and the names are for our organization. Keeping them secure versus price, is our top concern.

I suppose NameCheap might be a good alternative. The hosting company we are planning on using uses MelbourneIT. I've heard mixed things about them as well.....

Thanks again and any additional comments or suggestions on who we might use (opinions on Melbourne are welcomed too) would be very helpful.

I think Fabulous is good when it comes to security.
