Two points:

- .IN sales are happening behind the forum scenes
- many .IN investors may be in a holding pattern waiting for the value to
increase to a level supporting the risk.

There are still .INs for sale here and at amazing prices.

Couldn't be said any better. There is no question here. People buy .co.in's only because they are the cheaper of the two. If they were both the same price, I think anyone would always take the .in. Buying the .co.in before the .in is like buying a .biz before a .com!

Not necessarily. There are quite a few exceptions.

NO comparision

If you look at Namebio.com, and compare the number of .in's vs .co.in's sold, and the top prices for each, you will see there is no comparision either! Ther are about 6 pages of .in's listed as sold, versus not even 1 page of .co.in's. Myself, I sold Tuned.in for $2,000, and Videopoker.co.in for $435.
Top 3 in's sold
.IN's
$60,000
$9,473
$7,973

.Co.in's
$1,200
$1,000
$510

This makes it pretty clear to me which is the better. Of course, there will be exceptions. These may not be exact, and I'm sure there was a better .co.in sold somewhere. As of today, I would say the .in's are kicking the .co.in's butt! IMHO!

Agreed about the price of .in being on the higher side. I'll do a small scan from the list provided by namebio and find out which domains sold are developed from the set of ins and .co.ins.

Let me know if study is helpful and I can start.

.in > .co.in

People generally have more .co.in because it is cheaper to register. But, .in domains hold more value.

Looks like nambeio is incorrect as I personally have many .co.in sales above the highest price you show here, just this year $6,000, $5300, $5,000 being the highest.

That said , I also believe that .in will hold better value in general as it has a much wider appeal with the options of .in/internet/indiana/indonesia etc.

It won't stop me picking up good .co.in as I have no doubt it is a market on the verge of exploding along with the massive growth in India.

And I have some nice .in :tri:

Thanks for your input Wot. Yes, just because I feel .in is better, I would still buy good .co.in names as you have.

shorter is not always better, hows the website use in India. I would think its more co.in then .in.

EG: .COM.HK more popular in hong kong then .hk

.in always had better reseller value than .co.in .
Most of the high priced .in has been purchased by domainers and are still undeveloped.
.in could be branded as .IN/INternet/INdiana/INdonesia/INternational or even be used for creating some meaninful hacks. (Log.in, Dine. In, Plug.in etc)
But in India, the media still feels it's .co.in .
Youtube recently launched YouTube India.
Both .co.in & .in version redirects to in.Youtube.com.

Most online version of Print media (Hindu, EconomicTimes, HindustanTimes) has been reporting it as launch of Youtube.co.in .

.IN i would describe, has invincibility to it, as compared to .co.in. MOre domainers believe in .in, and alot believe it SHOULD be the dominant TLD of india's online existence(but we still know .com is king). I think .in's potential realization hasn't caught up with its pumped up image yet. At $14 a pop,if ur holding "average"/mediocre .in names, you've got money wasters on your hand(and possibly combine that with little or no traffic). .IN is bigger than .co.in, but i b elieve .co.in is a bit underrated, and will gets its own shine in due time. I'm watching to see how .in fully unfolds.

Wot i think you should report the sales to namebio/spade , it will only help drum up some support for co.in
