Something about .IN and co.in

Most of the internet gaints have their .co.in names to their local sites. But NOT .IN names.
As co.in is for companies, would co.in names better than .IN names?
here are some sites that have their co.in presence but not .IN

Yahoo (.co.in points to in.yahoo.com & .IN doesn't resolve to anything)
MSN
Google
IBM
Rediff
SUN
Adobe

And many more....

co.in was availible before .in was availible...so all compainies set up .co.in sites

My personal take:
.co.in is more likely to be an actual "India" site, while .in is more likely to have long-term value with great keywords as .in becomes more accepted in India and elsewhere.
Of course, if I could see the future, I'd be on cable by now :kickass:
