Have you been in a situation when you sit down to do some research to find good handregs, find a few good names, then you go look where you can register them for less at the moment, put the names into the registrar and find out someone has already registered the name, the name you thought was going to be yours.

Mine is TokenDoctor.com

Hi domainers

You should know that your first impressions sometimes are not fully rational. And especially when you are losing some names, you feel even more values the losing name has.

Body, this is too emotional.

The best way is to hold it for a while, justify the name, and make a rational decision based on your research, analysis, and data.

You must have experiences that: some names which gave you very nice first impression, would more and more dislike. Eventually the name has nothing value and on market no one really give it a shit. Only yourself thought it worth a million.

Man, wake up

I used to make almost all my income from Thailand related websites 2003-2013. Have had some good Thailand related domain sales as well ($xxxx each). However, Thailand is "Thaïlande" in French!

I was going to register Frankly.info for 1$ last month but it was gone after just 2 hours.
not even sure if that's good :P. frankly.net sold for 4k, so the .com must've been a solid thing. But .org would be the next bet. . . Info? Idk.

Great, then you should know thailand.ly is available (Japan too).

+300,000 Swedes travels to Thailand each year but very few Libyans.

I had Agrobitcoin.com available for registration and after three days I tried to register it but it had been registered that same day. The person didn't stop at that, he went ahead and registered Agribitcoin.com also..

The same thing happened with Hotelmiami.org.

So yeah, I don't trust registrars again

This happened to me just the other night on an insanely good name (so good I can't remember) that came to me minutes before I went to bed. Said it was available on GD but once I clicked 'add to basket' it wasn't available. Gutted!
This is problem with DG sometimes, you search some name and it shows available ( but someone might have registered the name way before) but when you click add to basket, it goes away.

As an update to this thread, the other day I bought

Casino.club

From namecheap. I couldn't believe it hadn't been reg'd. I paid and got through checkout, chuffed with myself, and then an error message came up. I got in touch with them and the name had been reg'd already but they still let me get all the way through checkout and payed before I knew this. I got my money back etc. but it was an anti-climax. Be careful.

This used to happen to me all the time at GoDaddy when trying to handreg drops from the day before. I'd get all the way through to confirmation but they could've been snatched by snapnames, etc. first. Still showed as available in GD. Annoying.

This is a different case and most probably with Godaddy but we are talking about the domains that are available to handreg or closeout domains.

As you know, we do some research before purchasing the domain once domain added to cart. Someone is so intelligent to read cart / browser cookies and snap the name before we proceed to payment.

i had the case several time at name . com , i had the domains in the cart and was ready to pay,
and only in the last step in the process, name tell me that the domains aren't available
and they were registered for months

Yeah, might be. I'm not sure about name.com and I occasionally purchase the domains from Name.com and I'm not aware about this. Thanks for the info.

I've had this before with names that it turns out have been registered for years. In cases like this I think it's a mistake at the registrar in showing them as available when they're not.

It happened to me at name.com
The next morning the whois shows the reggs the same night. I wanted to sleep over it to make the decision. I mailed them and of course they say that they don't frontrun. I don't trust any registrar nowadays.

About availability i had a .tv handregged. I paid 40 euros and later they came back that it is 600 euro..took them 30 days to refund my money..Stupid

Using internic dot net to check availability of pending registrations is always a safe option.
how do you use it. I am on there and I can't see how to check pending registrations... do they have list of dropped names or what?

how do you use it.

Go to the 'who is' tab and enter the name...if someone has it the data will pull up. This is how I have been using it at least...if it is not registered then I continue research.

No, they are binary (no drop lists, etc).. when you type in a name it shows as either being already registered or still available:

www dot internic dot net/whois dot html

Happens a Lot. Its usually been 1-2 days after i checked for a domain. Probably this is what is driving impulse hand registering :)

Wow! I hadn't thought of it this way. So with registrars who employ these tactics, the very real threat of them taking attractive names for themselves could create a situation where sales of registrations increase for them generally. Questionable behaviour indeed.

I just missed flipbitcoins.com, and it looks as if Pheenix grabbed it.
