I have been reading NamePros avidly over the last two months, new as I am to the industry. If you could package up the wealth of info here and distill it down, it would be worth a mint I'm sure.

I was wondering if I could ask what percentage of your domain portfolios are hand regged versus purchased on the re-seller market. I am just wondering if there is any continuity here.

80/20 for me.

Thanks for all the great threads.

~ 65% / ~35% for me, IMHO.

I'm including acquisitions from those in Wholesale/Reseller, those whom I contacted & negotiated via email / Whois / landing pages, etc. and the drop services such as Snapnames and Pool in the second ~35% figure, as well. :talk: :imho:

Welcome to #1 Namepros! :music:

70% fresh regs, 30% purchases.

I'm a fan of fresh regged names. quality underdogs! :)

About 95% hand regs, 5% purchases

Same, about 95% hand regs and 5% bought.

If you choose one over the other, it makes little difference in my book. It takes tons of research to find the best names either way.

This is what I figured some time back, about research that is, I was just starting to get the feeling that most 'sucessfull' domainers chose the secondary market. That's obviously not the case.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not so scared now. :)

Isn't the percentage irrelevant because it depends on when you hand regged and bought via reseller?

If you have 80/20, and the 80% hand regged is mainly from 1999-2000, the portfolio is probably much better than if the 80% hand regged is from the past year.
