Hello community,

I've been reading and reading domain platforms since 2 months before I finally jumped in. I doubt I've been making mistakes that everyone suggested to avoid (from my 2 months learning).
Though I should roll in the ball for expert advice and gain something from vintage domain investors.

- Is ageing of domain so important that no one suggest picking up hand reg domains?

- Are dropped domains considered aged (previous life of domain before dropping) if picked as new registration?

- With my learning and reading; I shortlisted Cannabis, Fitness, Food, Affiliate, Crypto/Bitcoin as niche to play with as a beginner. Is that a safe and profitable niche bracket to begin with?

- Is a sensible hand reg 2 word .com worth anything?
Like I bagged BlessCannabis.com and CBDsupply.biz
Are they good for a profit or a waste hand reg attempt?

- If the above two examples makes some sense, I've shortlisted few other similar (sensible, not a combination of random words) 2 word .com names in various niche. Should I secure them?

As a newbie, I am looking for a guidance from seniors. With my 2 months learning, the thing I like about domaining is that I may be the only industry where there are no competitors but only mentors and guides.
Looking forward for an advice.

Thanks in advance.

Domaining is very competitive. The best names in the niches you have chosen are long gone as in all niches. Every time you try to register a name and it’s registered remind yourself that you do indeed have many competitors.

There is nothing wrong with occasional hand reg once you know what you are doing. Its going to take a lot more than two months and you will make mistakes.

A sensible two word hand reg is probably best placed on a brandable market or Afternic lander with a buy it now and do so knowing there is likely a long hold. The two words need to be in the correct order and high value or popular words are best.

Dropped domains do not retain their age. The registrar basically hand regs it for you. I have found more good names on the drop than just by hand reg. If nothing else, watching dropping lists and auctions helps you learn more about domaining.

Good luck to you.

It's only bad if we are new domainers and lack experience... after we get it handregs become good..like everything else we do..cause experience is everything.. in everything in life... not just domains

Thanks a lot for the detailed input. Every bit of it makes sense.
Thing is that I cant invest a lot so can't go for auctions right away. Though I can do some small flips with decent hand reg ones. I'll keep learning and will try to pick good ones.
Thanks again.

no absolutely, you could see proofs of many pro domainers, although they accquire domains, but when registrars has big promos events, they'll hand-reg upto 10k names, yes, 10k names per event

and many sales with hand-reg for thousands, like @WhoaDomain.com , you may see his thread in Popular This Month

That's an eye opener. 10K regs per event.. :-o
And thanks for suggesting @WhoaDomain. I'll study the thread and I am sure that will give me some confidence.
