Hey everyone. I've owned pkone.com for about 8 years now and have used it off and on for my freelance design company. I use it mainly to post designs for my clients and it is my primary email address.

Last year a company from Korea emailed me and offered $1000 to buy my domain name from me. I asked for $5000 and they came back with $3000. I've grown very attached to my domain name and didn't think it was worth it, so I declined their offer.

They've since established pkone.net and pkone.co.kr. From what I can tell they are a global marketing company and seem to be a fairly large company. They contacted me again last week to buy the name but didn't offer a price. I again asked for $5000 and they came back with $1000.

What do you all think the value of this domain name is considering all this? I'd love to have some opinions on this from people more familiar with prices. Thanks in advance!

- Peter Kim

If you dont need the money, and are not in hurry to sell it, then wait it out and tell them 50.000 :) cause if they are a big company and really wants to buy it, they would pay. For a big company 50.000 is nothing.

Offcourse this is if you dont need to sell it, and can take it if they dont want to buy it because you increased the value.

Just tell them you got advice from your advocate og something like that, as a reason to why you have increased the value :)

If it was me, I would not sell under 50.000.

Stay with your asking price, don't go below that a you own this domain for many years before they register the .net.

If you need assistance to sell it, send me pm.

Regards,
Em

I can't quite understand what PKOne do, but they do look like a big organisation.

The also own www.pk-1.com

Would it be worth engaging Sedo or another similar company to act on yuor behalf? If this is a multimillion dollar company chances are that their marketing pockets are deep.

Do some research and try to figure out who they are.

Thanks for your responses. I'm not sure exactly how successful their business is and they seem to be fairly new. Their registrations for pkone.net and pkone.co.kr are all within the last year, although pk-1.com that lozmatic found is from 2005. Googling isn't giving me anything, it's hard to get a value on their worth.

I'm not exactly poor but $5000 would be very helpful right now. I don't plan on going below my asking price, or higher ($50,000??). What exactly does Sedo do? I don't think my domain would fetch much in an auction since it only has particular interest to one company.

I sent an email back to them standing firm on my $5000 price, saying that domain names for larger corporations can go for anywhere from $5000 to $100,000. I'll let you know what they say, thanks!

well for this name youve got to take the age into consideration too, dont go a cent below the $5k - mid to high $x,xxx is about the right price imho

Have to agree with the posts above me. In this scenario, it would be silly to accept anything below $5k. Why, you ask? They've knocked at your door twice and, once they realize you're not going to back down, I believe they'll come around.

Best of luck. Keep us updated. :tu:

Their web site is written in Korean.
So...
If you ask too much, they'll just use pkone.co.kr unless this company
have plan to go global.
I bet most koreans are comfortable with using .co.kr

Another suggestion - stop asking question about your domain on open forum.
Koreans are highly internet savvy and I am sure they'll find this thread if not already ;)

I'd say wait it out too, they obviously want it, otherwise they wouldn't have contacted you twice.

If what you say is correct about this company, this name obviously means a lot to them and in terms of revenue that they could acquire on this name globally on acquiring the .com $5000 is too low, aim and/or play a lot higher.

I'd be happy to help broker it for you for a set percentage if you lack the confidence to do this by yourself. If pushed I can sell ice to an eskimo, I'll negotiate the best possible price for you without a shadow of doubt.

Pm me if you are interested.

Cheers.

Mark

they say why they lowered there offer from 3k to 1k ?

what does pkone mean to you, name wise? you can used any name to post designs and email

I personaly would have sold it for 3k

Tell them they offered 3k last year and you will sell it for that much plus they pay for escrow.

There may be more than one party interested in this....are you sure it was the same company inquiring the second time?

I see an energy management company stuck in the .biz.... http://www.pkone.biz/about.htm , plus, is there any value in the domain as a typo of "phone"? Any traffic from that?

Personally, I would not sell. The DOT COM version of any domain is KING.
The more they develop these ccTLD's the more valuable yours becomes.
One day, they will realize the error of their ways, and will then be forced to make you a substantial offer.

or they may find out that they can do just fine without it, over time (may be why it went from 3k to 1k on there end if its the same company). probally depends on how many haft way big companys are out there using pkone as a name. pkone.biz does not look like they spent much money on their site.

wow, i'm amazed by how many people are responding to this thread. you guys are really into this stuff!

Thanks again for all the advice, i'm sitting tight on my $5000 price and waiting for them to respond. I'm not sure if it's the same company that contacted me last year. Their email was worded as if it was their first contact with me, although it was written in very broken English.

To be honest, I don't even know why they're called PKONE. That's a strange name for a Marketing agency, don't you think? For me it's my initials and then "one", like the fragrance CK One. Not the best name, but I was 18 when I made it and didn't really put much thought into it. It means a lot sentimentally to me, and it's what all my friends and family associate with me, not to mention my clients. Sure I could change it and be fine eventually but i've grown attached to it.

I agrre with bobdigital .com is KING :)

A "normal" user of internet knows only two domain extensions, okey maybe a few more :), but generally a user knows the extension of there own country and .com.

If this company wants to expand to outside korea, they need .com, trust me :)

You said you didnt need the money right away, then wait dont sell for under your first asking price, although I still think its very low, I would say x10 :)

And copper is right dont talk about the domain in a public forum, the company may follow the conversation.

I would get a domainbroker involved, because Im sure a person who sales domains as a living, would get much more then what you ask for it.

You must think of that they have probably invested many times what you asked for the domain, in promoting there name , and there is only one .com with there name.

Its actually very simple demand and supply. they want to buy, there is only one product of what they want, you have it :)

EDIT ADDED:
if you look at pkone.biz they are a company who sells energy management system, mainly to hotels.

pk-1.com I dont know what they sell, but it looks like they have done much to promote their name with the slogan "Promise Keeper only One(1)"

Its like they have built there identy around the name, so dont go under what you ask, I would multiply it with 10 :)

And by the way are you sure its the company who contacts you, maybe its a middle man, who thinks he can buy it from you, and then contact the company him self?

If I was you I would send e-mail with the offer to them directly where the e-mail adress is ending at there own domainname.

Their site says...

PK ONE = Promise Keeper, only One.

If your going to be firm on 5k then might be best to sit on the name longer, years.

Us english speakers dont know if there is another korean name they might rather use than spend 5k

cant assume you got the only .com name they can use

this can easly be your only multiple k offer on this name (old 3 k)

your obviously going to be having language and cultural boundaries with this sale, so contact a domain broker, who will take care of it for you.

The only way you will make a nice profit from this, is if they are a large company in which case it is silly to be posting this is a public forum. They only need to type in their company name into Google, and they will find this thread.

A domain broker makes their profit as a percentage of the sale so you are guaranteed they will sell ONLY when they know they have the maximum offer. They are also experienced with working with companies, and brokering the deals and most likely will have brokers that speak korean.

This company has pro-actively contacted you on Two or more occasions, already spending a days wages paying someone to do so, they are obviously very interested in your domain... IMO you have already blown a hole in your wallet by making a low counter offer. 5000 may sound like alot, but for ANY successful company whether a small or large enterprise, 5000 is nothing when talking about your brand/company name.

i would put something on pkone.com to show them that you have a business on your website, and that it is valuable domain for you.and no way i would go below 5k. good luck.
