Hi guys,

Thanks for your time and I would appreciate your comments on this one.

I emailed this company and told them about this 4 letter .NET domain that Ive got, they hold the .com. They got back to me and asked for how much. I replied and asked them to make me an offer. One day later they offered $200 for it.

Now what?
Should I counteroffer?
What should my counteroffer be?
Ive got it listed on sedo and afternic for $500.
etc

Thanks guys..

Here's what I would do to maximize profits...

1. Change the fixed price into an offer/counter offer
2. Contact the company back and tell them to make an offer via Sedo
3. After the offer is made, you'll be able to turn it into an auction
4. Create the auction then contact a few more places that look like they would be interested in the domain. Send them a link to the Sedo auction when you email them.
5. Advertise your auction in the For Sale -> External Auctions section of this forum
6. Enjoy the bidding war :D

Hmm yes maybe I should do that... thanks for the tip mate!

No problem. PM me the name too. I'll do a Google search and I'll see if I can help you out some more.

I would counter it. If they responded with $200, chances are they arn't go to offer their maximum amount. If you think $500 would be an excellent deal if you sold it for that, counter offer with that amount.

It would be nice to know the domain name for appraisal. And by telling them to use an auction system might very well kill any deal you have with them. Just make a REASONABLE counter-offer that you feel comfortable with.

I don't think the auction system will matter to the company. If they want the name for $200 then they can put the opening bid at $200. The company may just realize how important the name is and up their offer.

What is the name of the company? What type of company is it?

I chose not to take it to auction, ie ask them to make an offer on Sedo. I have made an counteroffer via email, basically told them that for $600 its a deal. Picked 600 as it is their initial offer x 3. Maybe it is too high? The company is a real estate company. Now its a waiting game..

Thanks for the input guys...

I was watching this thread, was curious on what happened?

Doggyowner, if you could PM the name, I could help you :)

Honestly I am surprised that they bother with the .net since they have the .com available. Consider yourself lucky and don't be too greedy :imho:

Kate is absolutely right in my opinion. Even the 200$ is a nice price for the domain.

If it is listed on sedo and afternic for $500, I think you should counter offer it for the same amount, or ask them to place a bid.
It is up to you if you are willing to negotiate this price or not, but I wouldn't ask for more or auction it.

Ballsy move going straight to the .com owner - surprised they wanted the .net if it really is a generic-ish acronym (Unless it's for protective purposes; ie: to protect themselves from you ;) ).

If you hand-reg'd it I probably would have said $300 and moved on - but until you post the letters that is just a guess.

I have to agree.

It would have been different if they own the .net and you own the .com then the ball would be in your court.

They own the L-LLL.com and he owns the LLLL.net. That's why they want the .net now.

Thanks for the interest guys. I haven't heard anything from them since last Fri. Afraid that my counteroffer let the fish off the hook, don't like this waiting game :)

Thinking of emailing again and saying something like, "I think we can reach an agreement and I am willing to negotiate price."

What do you guys think? How long should I wait and how should I write it?

Thanks...

Yes lets hope you are right djmadfx that they WANT the .net. This company have both the llll.com and l-lll.com

They have nothing to fear from me, just a bit of their traffic going to my parked page :)

By the way, if you want to know what the domain name is, check my signature and find the one and only LLLL.NET that Ive got.

Cheers
