Hi All-

After starving for two months, finally I got an offer. I marketed one of my domains to potential end-users and I referred them to my Sedo listing (no price asked). One of them responded by emailing me back asking for my price, instead of going to Sedo and placing his offer there. What should I do now? How much should I ask? This person is the CEO of a Tech company.

Estibot says: $260
Leapfish says: $785

However, the domain name is very brandable; especially to a Tech. company.

Thanks

AMG

We need to know the domain to be able to make a good appraisal.

Leapfish sucks, estibot only slightly less. Do not use automatic appraisals to base the value of your domain.

It's possible it is worth that much, but nobody can make any comment whatsoever without knowing the URL.

I think you got the email from old scammers ;)

If the "CEO" tells you to get an appraisal first then it is a scam and dont do it.

Okie .. i got your PM

1,770 Google results , Other registered TLDs
.net .co.uk .ch .de .cn .org.vc com.vc .eu
these what i found so far.

Try to start Sedo auction and contact all the other owners and who might be interesting.. most of the other domains are already companies.

It is not a scam because I mailed him personally along with other potential end-users. He didn't ask for an appraisal. He just wants to know my asking price. I googled his name and I found that he donates $100,000 every year to each of the republican and democratic parties, in addition to his normal donations of 1K to 5K to each candidate who runs for presidency, house or senate!
I do want to start an auction. I emailed all the .net .co.uk .ch .de .cn .org.vc com.vc .eu registrants but nobody emailed me back or looked at the offer at Sedo.
I PMed all who asked for the domain.

Thanks.

Hmmm, this sounds familiar, sounds like the usual appraisal scammer. I would advice you to proceed with caution & don't pay for any appraisals if they ask for one

This one is difficult. It sounds like the scam that I've read about, and I agree that you should be cautious about it and not pay for an appraisal. This might not be the best advice, but set your price high, like low $xx,xxx and hope that he doesn't say 'you're crazy' and will start negotiating with you. The domain isn't incredibly strong, and has little traffic however that doesn't matter to the right end user so don't let that deter you from setting the expectation high. Then, if he is still interested, you have a lot of room for negotiation.

When I got my first offer, I handled it completely different. I replied saying that I really wasn't looking to sell it but make me an offer. He made an offer and I countered higher and then we settled...maybe you can try that?

I'm sure there is some knowledge here to be found on negotiating properly when it comes to things like this. Look for threads about negotiating and you may find some good strategies.

Hope that helps!

Yah, this might be a scam. Try to mail them your price (let us see your maximum price). Then they will request you to go to an appraisal which will grab you some bucks.
