Google’s Matt Cutts: Domain Clustering To Change Again; Fewer Results From Same Domain

Google’s head of search spam, Matt Cutts, posted a new video about a new change coming to Google’s search results related to the diversity of the results being displayed.

Matt said that Google is launching “soon” a new change that will make it less likely to see results from the same domain name, if you already have been shown that domain name in previous results three or four times before. Matt explained that once you’ve seen a cluster of about four results from a specific domain name, the subsequent pages are going to be less likely to show you results from that domain name.

I'll believe it when I see it (pretty much my attitude on everything G. announces these days ). IF they do it, it should be a good thing - its useless to have 5 pages from the same big brand hogging the results for the same query. If there are that many relevant pages, just display them as sitelinks.

Sounds good to me. Nothing more annoying than seeing dozens of "results" all from the same domain. That is what the "site:" modifier is for! 2 or 3 is fine, but anything more is lame.

At last Google is going to fix this. Showing multiple results from the same domain, actually suppressed smaller sites and is a boost for big players. Also we must say there is no need to show multiple results from the same domain for the same search query.
