Every domain name that I could think of has all been registered. Are there any good domain names out there? I'm talking about dot com here... Anyone finding the same thing?

If you're looking for ideas check out makewords.com or randomainer.com. You might get some ideas on how to combine words or use additional letters to make a unique domain. Hope this helps.

That's great advice and something which really is needed nowadays if you want to find names worth registering with any frequency. Many domainers swear by the Domain Research Tool. You can also sometimes find good names at reasonable prices using backordering services such as Pool, Snapnames, NameJet and firesales + other expired domains at TDNAM.

I like niche domains myself. If you successfully register the next buzz word like "blog", "vlog", "podcast", etc, you could be well on your way to retiring within a few years. Quite predictably, it's not easy to register that next big thing before someone else does in .com and a lot of people are looking for these words because there's so much money in it, however it is a lot of fun and if you choose to research the latest developments in a field you're genuinely interested in, it also allows you to stay on the cutting edge.

Welcome to domaining, try gettting 1 new hot idea and go into site development instead of trying to collect domain names. Its more fullfilling in the long run in my opinion

I think the main place where a good dot com matters is if you are counting on a lot of type-in traffic. If you plan to develop niche sites and expect your traffic to be search engine driven I don't think the tld matters very much. I find the dot com and others are usually just parking pages which are easy to outrank. These days I register a lot of dot info's :)

First of all, thanks for all the comments. Second, I've been thinking also, even if I come up with "1 new hot idea", and would like a domain to go with it. I'd have to buy it for some high prices. I'm telling you all...all the good domains are taken. These days, if you want a really good domain name to go with a business or something, you'll have you buy it off of someone. Someone who's been collecting a bunch of domains. Yup, that's the new business now. There's is the possibility of just making a content-rich website, where you the domain name doesn't really matter at all. As long as the contents there, people'll will get to your website through search engines. Thanks again all!!!

Get Help Finding Domain Names

It can be hard to find a good domain name, but that depends on what you consider "good". In my opinon, they are NOT all taken, you just have to work to find them.

If you want some free suggestions for .com domains, please send me a PM, describe what you are looking for in as much detail as possible, and I will offer you some ideas.

Most will be domains you can just register, but some may be domains that I own and want to sell. If you find a name you like you can just register it for the normal fee.

Reece.....I am not sure what you meant by this
" If you successfully register the next buzz word like "blog", "vlog", "podcast", etc, you could be well on your way to retiring within a few years"
Do you mean register the WORD alone like "blog.com" or do you mean register topics of interest and add the word blog...like "telephoneblog.com"

Look at the drop lists. Decent domains drop every day.

One way I use to try to find dot com names is to think of a particular niche, then use the google adwords keyword tool

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

to try to find terms with that keyword that people are actually searching for.

(In other words find a market first and then find a name that could find a potential buyer in that market.)

Add all the keywords to the right hand side of the page and download as a txt document. Transfer this list into a bulk domain checker (such as Moniker) and see if any dot com names are free. I then run those through Estibot to see, not so much the value, but rather if there is any likelyhood of real seaches and possible traffic. I also search on Google for that phrase to see if there are any websites (ie end users) that would have a use for it.

I rarely purchase domain names at much more than reg fee and I can assure you that there are plenty of good names out there to be registered or acquired on dropping (try looking at the Godaddy $5 auctions) which have potential for end users if a little effort is made.

Hey David thanks for the tip!
I was trying to use nameboy to come up with name ideas. But many of the names it said were available were acutally taken when I went and looked at GoDaddy.
