Hi,

I've just received an email from godaddy charging me $4.99 for a annual renewal membership fee for tdnam. I joined a year ago to advertise some domains for sale but it was free. Can anyone clarify for me if this was in an agreement when you join tdnam or if they've pulled a sneaky one before I contact them.

Thanks.

If you joined a year ago to list domains for sale then you must have paid the membership fee and forgot that you did. There is no way you could have listed any domains without paying.
This is a one-off yearly fee that gives you the ability to buy and sell on Tdnam, without it you can only browse the site.

You could be right, perhaps I had forgotten but surely they shouldn't allow it to be set to auto renewal without your permission. If that is the default setting then that sucks.

Just to add, I know it's only $4.99 but if they do this on a large scale it all adds up for them.

Yeah, that's one of the Godaddy quirks that is really irritating. Everything you order is automatically put on auto-renew and it is your responsibility to change it if you don't want to be automatically charged again 12mths down the road.

Funny, my tdnam membership expired on 9/14 but I can still bid on domains.

The $4.99 is WELL worth the fee.

if you purchased a Domain Discount Membership about a year ago it also had a free year of TDNAM membership (and a free year of GoDaddy's Parking service)

They only charged me the fee when I signed up but never was charged again like other folks. I've been using TDNAM since the very first day they opened the site for biz. I don't know if it is b/c I do so much biz with them or what the reason is.....but I don't get charged that.

I had been charged as well, do anyone know how to stop it? if it auto renew for the rest of my life it will be $$$ considering inflation and I will live for many years..... do you think they will still charge if I past away?

Ok here goes:

Log into your account

Click on "My renewals and upgrades' in left hand column, this will open another list.

In this list click on 'Payments and renewing items'. You will now see a list of every domain and services you currently have with godaddy.

Select Tdnam by checking the box next to it. Once selected click on the grey 'Auto renew' tab just above the top of the list. A panel will appear on the right which will give you 2 choices - 'Auto renew' and 'Disable auto renew'.

Check the disable box and click the save changes bar below the panel.

Your are done!

You will receive an email from Godaddy confirming your changes.

If anyone had a tdnam membership renew and you actually did not want to purchase it, you should be able to call Godaddy customer support and get it refunded (480)505-8877.

Keep in mind, this means you probably will not be able to buy or sell on tdnam.

They hit me for an auto-renewal for TDNAM a couple months ago. I called, they easily agreed to remove the charge.

IT WAS NOT REMOVED.

Apparently when they remove the charge it does not show on their screen, but the refund does not go through to the Credit Card company. So you have to check your bank statement.

I called them again, irritated about the waste of my time and that (with a long time on hold) I was paying for the call. Although the rep (really) refunded the money he was so smarmy defending the auto-renew policy I got really angry with him, yelling at him that Godaddy has no right to take money from my Credit Card without my permission.

This is the ugly ugly side of Godaddy. They know that most people will never notice the $4.95 so they can keep collecting it year after year. Allowing the customer to opt in to auto-renewal is good business. Hiding automatic auto-renewal in the fine print of a user agreement is dishonest.

I spent over a dollar of my $4.95 refund yelling at the Godaddy rep. Money well spent

tdnam membership fee is worth paying for. but it is better to block the auto renew feature and renew it only when you think you need to sell/bid.
