Has your premium listing sales on Godaddy declined since they removed the premium listings from the home page that used to automatically pop up when someone did a search for a similar keyword?

Now they list all the new gTLDs in their place and you have to manually click on Premium listings if you want to see them. Most I'm sure don't because the button isn't really noticeable. I don't know how long ago they changed it but you would think their profits would be higher when getting 20% on a sale compared to selling a new gTLD for 40 bucks.

I believe the new TLDs have zapped domainer to domainer sales as many domain investors are now buying new TLDs instead of aftermarket domains at reseller prices. Also, conversion rate is a factor in Godaddy's marketing efforts. Let's say 95% of people who come to Godaddy looking for a domain name have a budget of $10. Maybe 3% have a budget of $100, 1% have a budget up to $349, 0.5% have a budget up to $799, 0.4% have a budget up to $1500 and 0.1% have a budget up to $2500 (theoretical). Premium Listings at $5000 + are not going to convert and the vast majority of aftermarket listings are not going to convert as they are priced "above market" Many new TLDs are available for under $100 so perhaps there are some reg fee new TLD domains being acquired by "end users" with a low budget. If Godaddy is making more money promoting new TLDs than promoting aftermarket .COMs, they will promote new TLDs.

Thank You for Your view, but i want to add that that everything is going to the aftermarket, because even ngtld's are taken or have premium prices... the remainging are just average or below average gtld ( but i agree that they are still free and not like coms)), the most important part in the new gtld is the selection of the right name.

That might explain why GD whois search report totals are at record multi-year lows, since the 1st of the year..

Just going from my own experience. Godaddy Premium sales are down, but my overall sales are way up. Sedo, oddly enough, has been doing OK for me with BIN prices - which they now display on the parked page for everyone to see.

Curious, do you use the standard Sedo sales page with all the parking links or the more modern Sedo page that doesn't have any parking ads? I have been forwarding my names to each individual premium listing page at Godaddy and it seems to be making sales but I'm giving up the 20% because they are just typing in the name and following it to the premium listing.

Wasn't aware of the more modern Sedo listing, so I'm still using the old. Sedo is still only charging 10% if the name is parked with them and sold at BIN. Probably better to have your own contact form to catch people who go directly your website.

Yes, I used to sell up to 10-12 domains per month on premium listings and now I typically sell 3-4 per month if that. I also notice that the payout timeframe for premium listings has increased. Currently there are no major advantages to paying the 20% on the premium listings over the 10% on regular listings.

I have seen sales decrease also but payout time decrease. I get paid faster now through premium listings then I do through Godaddy auctions. Sold 2 this month and both paid out in 1 week. It used to be a month.

I can't even figure out how to access the GD Premium user interface... Where do you go within GD to get there?

Go to your Domains page and click manage. At the top of that page will be Buy and Sell and choose Premium Listings.

They should set it up to randomize..sometimes it displays gTLDs and sometimes it displays Premium Listings.. They could even take it one step further if the user is logged in.. They could, for example, display premium listings if it's been determined that the user has purchased from Premium Listings before.. Oh well, I don't really go with the premium listings on there so it doesn't impact me much. GoDaddy still drives a good amount of sales without premium listings..

They used to only display premium listings in .com and now it's only the new gTLDs. On mobile it's still the .com listings. I would think that 20% of a few thousand sale is more than what they would make off a basic gTLD. I guess tha's why the dropped it from 30% to 20% commission since you get less exposure.

I never list anything for a round number. I always end in 95. For example, 495, 1295, 1495, 2495 etc...

I spoke with my account rep yesterday and he said that there are currently no differences between premium and regular listings except the buyer receiving the domain name right away with premium listings, the commission is all the same now as well on both listings.

I actually do the same as hookbox, I randomize the amounts that I use typically around 674, 694, 698, etc although I don't know if it really makes a difference

Probably because no one wants to pay the prices for those premiums. I have had some domains drop in the past yet show up there later for thousands.

I don't know the reason, but my domain sales via GoDaddy Premium were decent in the first half of this year but have dropped off a cliff in the 2nd half. Perhaps this change is the reason although it is hard to be sure.

I also wonder why GD just has the domain go to a parked page that says "this domain is for sale". They used to list the price right on that page but no longer do so.

Same thing here.
