After buying Europe.tv and Spain.tv I had some people tell me Europe.tv was more valuable than Spain.tv and some say Spain.tv is more valuable than Europe. Either way, I personally like them both.

With that being said, and I know this has been discussed before but I was curious what others think when it comes to Continent/Country/State/City what carries the most values. I know it depends on the various factors but in what order to you guys think is more valuable in the 3 examples below:

(Example 1) UnitedStates.tv California.tv San Diego.tv

(Example 2) Asia.tv Japan.tv Toyko.tv

(Example 3) Europe.tv England.tv London.tv

Thanks, Jim

If it were me the ones I would take from each example would be...(answers in bold)

(Example 1) UnitedStates.tv California.tv San Diego.tv

(Example 2) Asia.tv Japan.tv Toyko.tv

(Example 3) Europe.tv England.tv London.tv

I actually have US.TV myself and would put that higher than California.TV.

The question is so subjective, you'll get so many variations.

Jimbo,

Your list in "bold" have 1 state, 1 continent, and 1 city. Geo's vary so much in popularity depending upon each area.

That's right you have US.tv. For me that is way better than America.tv, UnitedStates.tv, USA.tv, even though all of them are great. But US.tv is right at the top of the Geo's.

I'm no geo expert like some of you guys, but i would choose the following:

(Example 1) UnitedStates.tv California.tv San Diego.tv

(Example 2) Asia.tv Japan.tv Toyko.tv

(Example 3) Europe.tv England.tv London.tv

The countries seem most valuable to me, but i really, really like the cities too.

Not crazy on the continents b/c i get the sense they are a bit too vague for most visitors.

i decide to edit my post and dont want people think i was hinting towards something...was just stating some facts so i will keep this simple and picks.

(Example 1) San Diego.tv

I love the sandiego, jimbo imo i would rather own us.tv then unitedstates.tv and you can have other formats for the usa.tv, america, northamerica.. I like the us.tv the most and from jimbo.

(Example 2) Tokyo.tv

Toyko is a huge powerhouse.

(Example 3) Europe.tv Killer name and would rather own this one...

Jeff,
One thing to realize is that even with the low renewal fees of $35.00 or $50.00, the owners paid a large upfront sum to get to that point. The question then would be how much is that and does it offset a high renewal being paid every year?

E.g. - Spain - $8,500 / yr = $42,500 over 5 years
London - Let's say the owner paid $100,000 upfront and has a renewal of $30.00 - $100,150 over 5 years

Which is worth more?

Best,
A

As you can see by my choices, i have chosen 1 of each, with so many variables, these are the ones i would personally have.
I have ignored reg fees and picked according to how easy it would be for me to develop them in terms of audience, location, content and my lowly development skills, etc.
In pure domainer mode, then i would love to have any of them and imo only the reg fee and amount paid upfront determines which is best as they are all top notch names.

I think it depends an awful lot on search numbers also.
I'd take A Euro Country over Europe.tv as most people would search for terms like : 'visit country, 'holiday in country' hotels in country' rather than 'visit europe' 'holiday in europe'....etc

I'd take a US major City over UNitedStates.tv or US.tv
I'd take a major European City over Europe.tv
I'd take London over England.tv

A lot to know with how people search but also how the audience would refer 2 themselves. IMHO

I think many people, especially those in North America actually think of 'Europe' these days like Europeans think of 'America'.

I own a European country name personally (Latvia.TV) and I would much rather have Europe.TV. Also, the EU aspect should not be ignored. There is a lot of EU money available for projects that are Europe-orientated.

Would you take Edinburgh over Scotland?

Regards Country over Europe.tv
I would take any of the major Countries over Europe, not the smaller ones with less tourism or interest to the wider world.

Would i take Edinburgh.tv over Scotland.tv??

You wont be shocked to hear me say No. :hehe:
Not ONLY as i own Scotland, i think is smaller Countries then people think/search for the Country as a whole so owning the pure country is the no.1 choice,

Though in my view both Glasgow.tv & Edinbrugh.tv are close in quality to Scotland.tv as they are major attractions, economies & interest points on their own.

For larger Countries where there is 4,5+ major Cities then the searches are split & the audience think of themselves as from 'xxxx city' r1st rather than from 'xxx country.

Just my view though, there is no ideal answer so most of us take the names we can get.
This was talked about a while back on NP if anyone can find the thread, would be nice to see if anything has changed.

Good point Jimbo.
Over time Europe.tv mught get better & better as more of the world do regard Europe as 1 place due to the one big place.

I ear that. I'd rather have UK than England, but I'm not sure offhand if I'd prefer UK or London since London is such a world class city.

I think the thing to have is what the locals would like the most, if thats who your hoping to reach.

Ammar,

Ahead.tv is not always right on the renewal fee's it states because of paying a couple of years upfront. I have noticed that on some of my premiums myself.

There are maybe 10 people here that can pull this off.

When your talking these prime names, have the bank behind you, flush with cash you know you have hit it big time and part of the elite group.

The one thing I do want to learn more in 09 is the geo plays and learn more about them and promise. I been annoying couple people on PM and asking questions on the geo market and promise and why. That's helping me.

Last year I had a few smaller geo names around me that I just sold for losses.

I will keep my small niche geo niche play in Texas and hope to announce what the game plan is with this. ideas in my head and some of them on paper but not in a huge hurry lol.

My picks are in bold. :tu:

Personally, I like short unique brandable names from a long-term development standpoint better than premium generic GEOs. Refer to Alexa top one million for examples.

(Example 1) UnitedStates.tv California.tv SanDiego.tv

(Example 2) Asia.tv Japan.tv Toyko.tv

(Example 3) Europe.tv England.tv London.tv

my picks are in bold, it's gotta be the cities for me, best chance of gaining revenue from advertisers in those cities.

eg would a plumber from london rather advertise on europe.tv or england.tv or london.tv?

I bet the plumber goes for london.tv

there are always exceptions.
