contact the epik team and they tell me that the domain was sold in their market for $25 (WTF!!)

I am sure @Rob Monster will come here to address this. I don’t see how a domain gets sold without you filling in $25 on one of those boxes.

    @Rob Monster

It's still with Epik as per whois so this should be easy to clear up.

Chat with Epik immediately and request them to lock the domain from being transferred out till Rob can sort it out for you.

rly scary that "accidental" sailing is happening. @Dustie had her domain sold by mistake and it's similar to this situation...

I think we should all check our BINs every month to make sure we're not accidentally putting domains up for sail at very low prices.

How long ago did you contact them? Just give them some time to look into it.

It happens to the best. Once I accidentally updated a BIN in the middle of a negotiation to a lower price than what was on the table. Needless to say they binned it within the hour. Lost a couple of hundred bucks over it but you know. My mistake, fair play :).

I know... but discussing it in public will only slow down the process as now they have to check both what happened and what is being said in here. Rob probably is gonna waste his time and chime in, stuff like that. 20 min.... Patience is a virtue.

As talked via phone just now, we are investigating the matter.

I see you set the domain price at $25.89 on June 5, 2019. The system notified you that the price was set to that price in USD. This is the email confirmation below sent to your inbox.

    upload_2019-6-26_6-26-23.png

The number entered was actually 25.888, which perhaps you intended to mean 25,888, using a European notation form for a US dollar price. This was your clerical error. It happens.

I see the domain sold on June 20, 2019 through a purchase, for which you were notified via email.

    upload_2019-6-26_6-4-14.png

I obscured your exact contact details here but want to acknowledge the transparency of the process both for the initial listing and the final sale. The record keeping of both events is clear.

As for the price, yes, it seems strangely low. We agree there. The buyer appears to be a bottom feeder who regularly trolls for cheap domains . We have seen him buy domains like this recently. He did nothing wrong. He exploited your clerical error.

In the meantime, we invoked our error clause (transparently posted on our site under refund policy) in order to reverse the domain back to you. This is the reason why registrars have 60-day transfer locks. We do waive this lock for cases where we are sure there is no risk of fraudulent conveyance.

We are also making a logic change to the system so that you cannot have a lease price that is more than the selling price. That should help. We'll also check for people who put prices in that are less than a penny to make sure they are using USD format when listing in USD.

I edited that part out -- it was a little feisty. The mic drop is good though.

I actually called the client here. He now has my cell phone so the next time he has a panic, he can contact our support team first, and if he does not like their answer, he can call me directly.

All systems go at Epik. I coached the client about how to handle cases like this. He offered to pull the thread. I think the thread has education value:

    1. Check your prices for clerical errors when listing.

    2. Hold your domains at registrars that will have your back when you screw up.

    3. Always check with your registrar before you throw them under the bus.

    :)

    So the title should be

Epik.com sold my domain due to my mistake for $25

Which is just another of the countless “jumping the gun” threads at NP where the title is misleading and the OP turns out to be at fault.

I don’t think the Monster stepped in to help solely due to this thread he probably would’ve helped even without the publicity.

Glad this one turned out well.

    Nah, the title should be:

I totally screwed up but Epik had my back. Thanks Epik.

True but he couldn’t have known in advance of creating the thread that it would end up that way. :xf.wink:

So probably he should’ve created no thread and just contacted you first. :xf.laugh:
