I've just been told by Epik support that if I purchase a domain from another customer and it's pushed to my account, that it is locked for another 60 days. JUST LIKE @ GODADDY. If this is true, that's me done with Epik as a customer. One of the worst policies GoDaddy has is a new 60 day hold on a push. And now I'm being told it is the same at Epik. That's the end of my experiment with Epik (:

Imagine if the domain had 7 days left before renewal.

Would that almost be like forcing you into renewing with that registrar?

I don't think Epik wants to lose you as a customer.

I imagine there will be a quick fix for you. But will there be for all?

I wonder if this this the new epik standard, or if the customer support rep was just misinformed?

This makes no sense.

Unlike the hell of Godaddy 60 lock (no outs)

Epik 60-day lock can b waived upon request.
One request, and never again this happen.

Isnt that right, @Rob Monster?

If it was up to me iโ€™d abolish the 60 day lock.

But with epik, there is escape from the 60-lock.

Godaddy there is no escape unless keep Whois details of domain the same or some bs.

After they waive 60 lock on your epik account (which i highly recommend)

never prob again, since waive 60 lock, trust me
could argue epik be ahead of Dynadot 30 lock.
Maybe Robโ€™ll finally abolish it.

They do it in a second, no work req from you,

itโ€™s never happened again with me, still think theyโ€™ll change it or tinker with it soon, but ur leaving for no reason, since theyโ€™ll un60 ur acc

Seems like a waste to transfer away, since by end today ur acc never- epik 60 lock again.

Not exactly. I asked them. They told me it was their policy. It was ambiguous. Whereas my question was not ambiguous.

Then it probably means she wasnt authorized to un-lock it... Since I would bet anything; you fill all qualifications, @Rob Monster.. Still willing to wager.

Hopefully theyโ€™d get rid it soon. Not last, wont be first; when you see how easy .was is unlock

She shouldn't be authorized to reply to tickets if she doesn't know what the policy is.

So are you saying this is common practice? To just request the lock to be lifted permanently? If so. I wonder why she point blank refused to unlock the domain when asked. But to state it was policy not to unlock the domain? And I wonder why Epik would ever have such an idiotic policy?

Am i the only one that thinks it should be adapted everywhere at least everything is cleared rather than it backfiring.

Some 60 day locks can be waived at Epik, others cannot. I had this experience where a support staff confirmed again and again that my domain was unlocked and ready to transfer, but the transfer to my buyer kept failing when they would try to initiate it. It seems that there is some confusion about this policy, even among staff members.

You guys are all aware that generally speaking the 60-day lock policy is there to protect the industry at large right? There's a lot of fraud in any and all industries where there are sales and transactions .. particularly of digital products.

I'll be the first to say it's a pain in the butt .. however the consequences of not having such a lock are far worse than having it.

I think that it most certainly could be reduced down to 35 days .. but removing it completely, while being amazing for domain management .. would have significant consequences in terms of fraud.


That being said .. if ever you need an exception you'd probably be better served talking to @Rob Monster or someone higher up at @epik .. as long as you don't abuse the privilege, I'm sure if the changes of ownership were clear and they get direct consent from the previous owner, they could look into making an exception every now and then. But because of the security aspects I mentioned above, it shouldn't be something too easy to do.

@Atergy. Yeah. But they are putting 60 day locks on things which most Registrars don't do. The only 2 Registrars who put 60 day locks because of an account change that I know of are GoDaddy and Epik. Most Registrars DON'T do that. To my knowledge.

Did you purchase it through Epik/NL or did someone manually push the domain? I never encountered issues on manually performed pushes.

I agree their lock policy is weird though. Bought some domains on their aftermarket and everything gets locked. When it's registry policy I don't mind but they also lock pushes for 60 days.
