There are two things you should do when receiving a new domain at GoDaddy.

One, is to make sure to slide to the left the setting that locks the transfer of the domain upon any change of WhoIs:

so that 60-day domain transfer lock is disabled, even if you change any WhoIs info.

However, even after doing this GDiddy will usually leave the domain disabled (locked) for outgoing transfers anyway, for 60 days upon initial receipt:

So what you also need to do to remove this 60 day transfer lock is to send an email to
[email protected]
from the primary registered email address for your GoDaddy account (NOT necessarily from the WhoIs email for the new domain) and request that the 60 day transfer lock be removed.

You will then receive an email confirming that the transfer lock has been removed:

Thanks, for the info, good to know.

Though, will they also do it for domains you purchased via Expired Auctions?

I tried this last time for the name you helped me sold and to my greatest surprised, they REFUSED to unlock it. It was not a new hand reg but a name won at auction and transferred to another account, both of which are Godaddy BUT they vehemently told me they will not unlock it.

I had always written to review60 to have domains unlocked in the past but this time around, they refuse. I thought it was a new policy of sort.

I was lucky that buyer had a Godaddy account.

I sent a request for removing my domain lock but they refused it

Hi,

popxi.com was opted into a 60 day lock during a registrant change. We are unable to remove this lock.

With the exception of transferring between registrars during this lock period, you have full use of your domain.

According to ICANN, the lock CAN be lifted:

https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/transfer-policy-2016-06-01-en

Section II.C.2. The Registrar must impose a 60-day inter-registrar transfer lock [*4] following a Change of Registrant, provided, however, that the Registrar may allow the Registered Name Holder to opt out of the 60-day inter-registrar transfer lock prior to any Change of Registrant request.

[*4] The Registrar may, but is not required to, impose restrictions on the removal of the lock described in Section II.C.2. For example, the Registrar will only remove the lock after five business days have passed, the lock removal must be authorized via the Prior Registrant's affirmative response to email, etc.

Has anyone had a lock lifted at GoDaddy more recently? @brandmine while waiting for @Joe Styler to chime in you could also send another email with the above ICANN policy and see how they respond. It is good to see you have plenty of time so technically you could wait out the 60 days until Aug 25th and transfer then yet that is a nuisance you shouldn't have to deal with

Did you point out is was you who did the Registrant Change and that you did not mean to opt in to the lock? This lock drives me wonky

I am not a lawyer so I will tell you what our legal team told me. I also know we had in depth discussions with ICANN about this type of lock. If the registrant changes you are given an option when initiating the change of registrant to either lock or not lock the domain when the information changes. The new registrant gets notification (even if it is yourself) that the change is happening and that there will/will not be a lock as a result. Before finalizing you can either reject this change and start over or accept the change with or without the lock. Once the choice is made and the gaining registrant accepts that choice the name is locked if that is what you picked and we CANNOT unlock it without being in violation of ICANN's change of registrant policy. So if you have the name locked we will not remove that lock.

It is new we no longer allow you to remove that lock because we were told by ICANN that it violated their policy. You must choose to not add the lock when initiating the change of registrant. If you are receiving the domain and the other party chose to lock it when they initiated it we tell you before you accept the domain it will have a lock. If this is not OK you need to reject it and send it back to the other party and ask them to start it again and choose not to lock the domain this time. Then you can accept it with no lock.
