I am looking for an ad-free email service for one of my domain names.
Google Gmail charges $5 per month for each email address.
Godaddy seems to be much cheaper. Am I missing something here?
Is Gmail that much better than Godaddy's email service?
Does the Godaddy price increase when you renew your email service?

When you say your domain name I assume you mean website?
I assume your domain name is being hosted?
So that way you can have your email read something like contact@yourdomainname com?

If so then use an email client like Thunderbird, its free.
And also read this post and see this also helps

I always thought GMail was free. Have they changed that? Whenever I've used GoDaddy for email, eventually I end up with a lot of spam in my inbox.

Hotmail has also free service but it's quite hard to set up and limitated. If you choose that, you should do few extra steps for making your addresses trusted, and not getting your messages in the junk folders of your receivers.
Otherwise, If you need a better and easier solution for few cents per month, feel free to PM me. I can help you on that.

You can set up a free domain-based email with Google:

http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html

It takes a little techie work, but I was able to set up my own domain-based gmail, and I'm not all that that techie.

For the free version, you are allowed up to 10 addresses for free on the same domain.

Good luck!

In the beginning there was no limit, then the free email addresses were 500. I have grandfathered some of mine with 500. Then it is 50 free, now it is 10. Wait another year it may be 5?.

dna,

You didn't mention if your domain was already registered with Go Daddy, but if it is, then you potentially already have a free email account. It would just be a matter of setting it up. You can have an email account with Go Daddy without having your domain registered with Go Daddy, but I just wanted to be sure you were aware of the free email that comes with the domain registration. You'd use these instructions to set it up: go.me/Rd

Also, I'm not sure what price increase you're referring to, but the email would only increase the price if you were increasing the number of boxes and/or storage space you need.
