I didn't feel it. Maybe because i'm about 395 miles away, or I was asleep and woke up at 1:45pm today. :hehe:

Estate frenzy

If The Big One hits and kills us all, can you imagine the feeding frenzy that will arise from all of our domains dropping when we fail to renew them on account of we'ze dead.

It seems like there's a big earthquake every 10-15 years here....

We're due for one. :o :p

Up here in Oregon, i was in Salem, about 20 miles from the epicenter of a 5.7 quake about 15 years ago. It was 5:30 AM, and when the walls started shaking, it was a very eerie sound. It took about 20 seconds to get to the front door, and by that time it was over. I hope we don't have another one for a long time.

I have to say how lucky I am over here in the UK having never been in a situation like that.

Can you guys tell if it going to be a small or a big one? PARDON THE PHRASE!!!

No one knows

No one can predict the magnitude of a future earthquake, no matter what earthquakes, if any, precede it.

Hope nothing like that happens (Japan quake). Hope nothing similar happens. Hope NO earthquakes happen at all.

May God keep you safe!

Shake it, baby.

I think I'll call my insurance agent on Monday and bump up my insurance coverage to include earthquake-related temporary relocation expenses (Hilton for me). I can only imagine how scarce and expensive housing would become after an earthquake. The feds predict up to 50,000 people would lose their housing as a result of a major earthquake here in the Bay Area.

Visit the following link to view a near real time earthquake map of the area:

http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/122-38.html

Scroll to the bottom to see a list of all of the past recent earthquakes. I just did so and was surprised to see that another small earthquake hit in San Leandro (15 miles east of San Francisco) about a half an hour ago. The really interesting list of quakes seems to be in The Geysers area of California, which is 71 miles WNW of Sacramento. Too many of them in one area, if you ask me.

That reminds me. I have to stock up on bottled water tomorrow. I have six gallons of it stashed in my home already. I need another twenty, and a keg or two. Just remember, if an earthquake hits, the party is "under" my place.

I am sooo not good during the earthquakes. I hyperventilate and just fall to pieces. I feel sorry for whomever is with me when we have a big quake, I am more of freak of nature than the earthquake itself.

I need more water and at my house too! Time to go stock up a little more ;)

That's it? I would expect that to be more like 500,000 with all the people living in the region.

Retrofitted

Many houses, apartments and other buildings were retrofitted after the last big earthquake that brought down some Bay Area freeways, among other structures; so, this may be the reason the projected homelessness from a major quake is only 50,000.

Nevertheless, since the two plates in the Bay Area are not slowly sliding by each other, like in other areas that have regular small earthquakes, but rather mostly compressing up against each other, a big earthquake is not a matter of if it will happen, but rather when and where it will happen along the San Andreas fault.

I expect anarchy will follow a big quake. I can remember a few years ago an armored car flipped over in Oakland and pinned a guard inside. While the guard was pinned down people nearby jumped into the back of it and made off with about $500,000. I don't think that the money was ever recovered.
