Got an offer from person (Robert Sedlacek, Broker, Name & Hosting Business Solutions LLC) claiming to be representing a buyer who has $5K to spend on names. He inquired about a name and I said it would be $550. He said ok but now wants me to have it appraised. Sounds fishy to me - but he didnt say use this source/link but almost started a conversation about where to get an appraisal. Claiming it is industry standard for seller to offer appraisals. I no it isnt - not in my domains industry.

What do you think?

Agree - BUT then he is basically representing the whole "appraisal industry" since he is not pointing me to any specific source. That is what puzzles me. I basically told him this is how I operate. I have names that I will part with when someone offers enough money. I even said I would "pay" for an appraisal in form of discount off the sale up to $50 but would not obligate myself to sell it under asking price regardless of any outcome of appraisal.

Do a google search or search for "appraisal scam" here on Namepros. There's another thread on this very forum about emails like this. It's a scam. If he were a real buyer he wouldn't give two figs about an appraisal, he'd be emailing you because he wanted the name outright.

It's a scam, tried and tested before, ask him to pay for the appraisal if he's serious, and you'll refund him his money back at the conclusion of the sale, watch him run like a maggot that he is!.

I've been sticking to my guns. Usually you can smell these appraisal scams a mile away. This guy was working it with crafted and transaction specific communication. What a way to make a living. get a life. (or job)
