Dropping GD Names that don't go through GD Auctions?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
So every so often I will see a name in the drops and wonder how I missed seeing it on GD Auctions.

Then just today, FarmBoys . c o m dropped from GD and I can't believe that a 19 year-old domain would make it to GD closeouts, and no one would pick it up for $5; this isn't possible.

Is there a scenario where a GD name bypasses GD Auctions?

I beleve there are 2 scenarios:

a) Domain manually deleted by the registrant on or around expiration date /or anytime/. This is what happens with our expiring domains @ GoDaddy, as we see no need to receive dozens of emails reminding us of the "last opportunity" to renew. Resultingly, almost all domains we drop are promptly grabbed by namebright/hugedomains from pendingdelete for their own forsale portfolio, and, for the record, we did not see a single domain from this group they sold later as the result

b) OLD domains like farmboys dot com, as GD registration agreement at that time did not allow them to send domains to auction

Thanks.

I think I've seen 20 year-old expiring domains in GD auctions, no?

Must have been transfer-in to GD after the initial registration, so that amended agreement applied...

Ah, yes. Much appreciated!

Definitely wrong.

I won statsol [dot] com at a GD expiring auction, and it's 20 years old.

I have also seen 24-year-old names on expiring auctions...

Did you read past post 2? There's only like 3 more and they're very short.

You're too nice for that kind of abuse and it's not really deserved. I've never heard this expression though :)

The expiring auctions have a censor filter in place to help keep controversial domains off the platform. A keyword like FarmBoys could have gotten caught up in it.

A few years ago I was tracking a domain registered at GoDaddy with the word "teen" in it and it never appeared in TDNAM after it expired. So I emailed them and they told me the word "teen" got it caught up in the filter even though it had nothing to do with porn. They manually added it and I was able to buy it.

A little late now, but if you would have emailed them you could have gotten it for the closeout price. haha

Interesting. There were a couple of other GD names that are deleting in the next few days that I have suspicions about as well. I will send an email to my rep...

If they're already scheduled to delete, your rep won't be able to help you.

Just that there was nothing he could do.

An interesting development... Thank you DubDubDubDot for sharing!

As a side note, just found GD support article "Bidding on Expiring Domain Names" which states "If a domain name registered with us after May 2, 2005 expires, we automatically list it for auction on GoDaddy Auctionsยฎ 25 days later." So May 2, 2005 must be the date of registration agreement change, as discussed earlier in this thread.
