[TDNAM] What happens to names with no bids that don't go to the $5 firesale?

I was hoping to get a certain name for $5, waiting out till the auction end date, time.

As usual, auction closes and I start my continuous refreshing, awaiting the $5 price tag to kick in.

...but for some reason, it didn't. It simply remained 'Closed'.

So what's the deal?

The name is expiring soon, with no bids, yet it bypasses the $5 firesale?

GD keeping the name for themselves? GD much rather let the names drop than earn an additional $5 (+renewal)?

Which is it? :o

I have discovered (the hard way) that if you really want the domain you should just put in the $10.00 bid, but, if you can, wait until the last minute to place your bid.

Of course, if you're sitting on the fence, perhaps waiting for the $5.00 firesale makes sense.

Keep watching, though--sometimes it takes a while for the name to pop back into the system.

Also, I once bypassed the "closed" message by simply putting the name into the search box. A buy-it-now box popped up. Not sure why it worked that way.

Also, GoDaddy coupons work for the aftermarket domains, at least for the reg part.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

I have had the same question. I have no idea why this happens.

99% of Tdnam's without bids end up in the closeout section. However two times recently I have lost names I wanted when they just disappeared.

I am not sure what happens to them. One name I was watching ended up with a massive domain holder. I am not sure how they purchased it. There were no bids, then the domain just disappeared.

I am wondering if TDNAM has preset arrangements with certain people, or employees that can kind of "preorder" names without bids before they hit closeout.

If someone backorders a name, they officially become successful if an auction ends with no bids so it won't reach closeout.

Speaking of this thread.....I just lost a domain I was looking at when it didn't dump to the closeouts a few minutes ago.

Doesn't the backorder show up as a $10 bid?

Not if it's placed after the auction starts

From my understanding no although I am only about 95% sure. I don't see why it would since the backorder costs almost double that.
