I was looking through domains @ domain.com, I spotted a gold one. punjab.in There's lots of publicity around this city thats 20% in india 80% in pakistan right on the border.

I figured it was a good domain name, thought to buy it, then thought again to wait for a day, next day its taken! This is not the first time it's happened to me, and I've only ever used domain.com (about 6 other names I've had also taken)

They are SPYING on you! Of course there is no way to confirm this, but lets just say I will never use them again.

I can tell you I found the same problem with several great names I did not registered immediately. It´s more or less a known problem and it seems it doesn´t matter which registrar you use.

If you find a good domain available, NEVER WAIT. owntype pointed out this one was already gone, but in general-- good domains do not sit around unregistered for very long.

The only conspiracies centered around registrars monitoring whois queries that I believe are cases that I can test and verify, and those cases are rare. In almost every complaint of this nature its just a case of someone else having the same domain idea and beating you to it.

Well it makes me feel better, thank you everyone who replied, and for the advice.

The thing is I did whois's at multiple sites afterwards (before making the claim they took my domain) but they all said whois error - i figued it was because it was onyl just recently registered.

Ah, well, thank you again, and yes, I agree that it is good advice, perhaps some that I will need to heed to soon.
