There is a domain I own, I'm not revealing name but it has an alexa rank of around 36k how much do you think this values it?
Its a pretty nice domain aswell ****social.com

Please don't move to appraisal section as I am also talking about buying domains with alexa rank on general...

An Alexa rank can be disregarded as it can be easily influenced - you should measure the traffic that the domain receives and that should unlock the true value.

Is it getting hits because it was a popular website previously?

A high Alexa rank is next to useless for the most part as you can simply buy traffic one day to boost it and never see those numbers again, once you start getting into the <=1000 numbers though then things get interesting..this space is occupied by the likes of Facebook and Ebay and it isn't possible to maintain that kind of traffic indefinitely without some means of income.

Well I went on archive.org and couldn't find anything about the precious website but I type it in on google and people seem to refer to it as some big website?

It doesn't matter unless it still gets traffic and/or the name quality is good. If neither, then it's a junk name. I've seen domains in the 1x,xxx Alexa rank available before and even though it looked apparent they were fake, I got them to see and sure enough, practically no traffic.
