comes from experience

when you read or have been part of the past, you can see or read predictions of the future back then, that either came true or never materialized as predicted.

you start to see similar patterns that happen year after year, and soon you learn to differentiate between hype, hope and hysteria.

To get an idea of the future you have to study the past and present. Look what's going on and listen to non-domainers and different generations to get to know different scenarios. Look at what the big players are doing like Google, ICANN et. al. Domainers are just one of the players in this game.

Don't get emotionally bound to either scenario you are able to localize.
