Many times I have written about how divided the domain industry is, some like to say the industry has to become united again. It never was united. I see the back and forth with the latest posts by Rick, where some are like you tell em, and others are like aren't you rich? Nothing better to do. Morgan is telling people they don't get it, he is leaving out the point that some just don't care. Domaining … [Read more...]

For better perspective I think it's worth considering what he "values" in terms of registering domains vs buying domains someone else already owns. Two threads that stand out in my mind are here and here.

Absolutely worthless domains, in my opinion. But again the perspective is entirely different, he has a standalone portfolio that doesn't require new inventory to maintain relevancy. He is registering domains that baby boomers would consider relevant because they watch TV all day. Most of us don't even own a cable box.

Rick had great foresight in keeping his inventory instead of selling it, which is what I preach today for domainers that manage to get inventory worth keeping over the long term. But when it comes to hand registering names of high relevance and sellability, he gets destroyed by 1-2 year novice investors that depend on making sales to keep their business afloat.

Rick could afford to keep his inventory because they were all making bucket loads of cash via parking then. With the risk of Urdp's and lack of parking revenue the playing field has changed dramatically. I wouldn't begrudge any domainer taking profit these days, keep a few golden ones and keep the cash flow going. One single name made Rick a fortune via leasing, as stated the playing field has changed.

My intention & decision i take few month ago to keep that domains i consider are good . It's like be on university: not hard to enter but hard to finish...keep/renew the domains you have & get the price you want in time.
