What is this?
I bought a domain currently at DomainDiscover and had it transfered to the DomainDiscover account I made. Just like how GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc... works, right? Wrong. The contact info is me, but there is this line on the control panel that says "Legal owner: [Former Owner]"
I click that and it says,

Obviously I do not want to pay this, and I can't have the former owner be the official legal owner of my site. And something tells me he isn't going to want to fax in his ID and all that garbage anyway.
I assume it will let me transfer to GoDaddy without paying this ridiculous fee (I would hope so). RIGHT???

The DomainDiscover control panel allows you to quickly and easily change the "organizational contact". However, doing so does not change our records of the identity of the domain owner. To change our records of the legal owner ("registrant"), please follow the instructions below. This procedure is to be used when transferring ownership of a domain to a third party.

How do I change the legal owner of my domain?
Legal ownership changes must be initiated through the control panel. Login to your account, click 'domains' on the blue menu bar and click the 'legal owner' link on the following page beneath 'contact information.' This is a multi-step process:
1. Initiate the change in the control panel.
2. Print and sign the PDF form that is generated through the online form process.
3. Fax or email a copy of this form along with a state-issued photo ID of the legal owner, or a copy of a business license or letterhead if the domain is owned by a company.
4. Once we receive the fax, we will review the forms and ID. If everything is in order, we will send a verification email to the administrative contact on file asking for approval to make the ownership change.
5. Once we receive the approved email, the ownership change will be completed within about 48 hours.
Each ownership change request incurs a $25 fee. If you need to change multiple domains, post all of the domains that are changing on the same form so that you are only charged once.
