Domain set to drop soon... or is it?

For obvious reasons, I won't mention the domain but instead will call it domain.com.

I looked through a dtop list and found domain.com dropping soon. I successfully backordered it but I'm told that the domain expires in 2010, otherwise it wasn't set to expire. I checked domaintools.com & it says the domain is "On hold (generic)." What is going on?

Sometimes the registrar "renews" the domain and then hands it over to its favorite auction site.

So the domain never really drops.

It stinks, but it's TWIW.

I entered the world of backordering just recently (within the last month) and wasn't sure about this. Thanks for clearing it up :)

Thanks for the rep!

Another thing: if you really want the domain, backorder at all three auction places: Snapnames, Pool, and NameJet (instead of trying to figure out what registrar is in cahoots with what auction house). It costs nothing to backorder.

Good luck!

Anytime :)

The domain was freepasswords.info I was thinking of using it for a site I own but I don't feel like paying hundreds for it at auction (which I'm pretty sure it'll go to) ;)
