Dumber than dumb questions coming up, even if they do make me appear foolish - I don't care, I'm just tired of going around in circles, trying to gain a fluid working knowledge of this whole subject, that I can put into practice.
So far it's like reading a book starting on page 272, para 4, I read it, go hmmmm errrrrr okkkkkkk, then next I have to go to page 130, para 2, read that, wonder then how that tallies up with the previously read page and then jump forwards to page 385, para 1 - before you know it, one gets hopelessly lost and confused.
Lets start at the beginning with some dumbass like me, although not stupid, on this particular subject, admit that I have very little knowledge. One thing I cannot stand is wasting time either, reading backwards and forwards for the knowledge that I need.
Therefore, if a few of you more qualified souls would be so kind to us newbies and give simple, clearly defined answers, this would be very much appreciated I am sure to many of us, coming into this game for the first time.
By all means if you need to, rather than answering directly, simply provide a link to a thread on this forum which already explains the answer to the question in very clear detail.
Ok, lets start. I've bought a domain with a reputable domain name registration company, believe it has a half decent chance of returning a good profit on selling it. Question:
First I want to increase it's potential and therefore it's probability of selling at a better price than a standalone name by itself.
How do I go about this?
I understand that there are these dooberry's called Parked Domain Companies, is this correct?
What exactly do they do? Of what positive benefit are they to my potential profitability? Who are the main ones? Who are trustworthy, have an excellent record of customer service and fast response times to queries? Which ones have the best payout on CTR (click through rates) and how often do they pay and by what mechanism do I receive my money?
When answering these questions, please provide an answer directly relevant to each question, cut and paste the questions if you need to, this will make the end replies given, much easier to understand for us newbies to this industry to fully understand and act properly upon.
Now, assuming that I have picked my Parking Company and I'm happy with the given rate at which they pay out. Next question/s:
How do I get my domain name moved from my registrar to the Parking Company? I understand this has something to do with pointing my DNS server address whatjamacallit to the parking company. How exactly does one go about doing this? Please do keep your answers ever so simple, told you, I'm a blinkin' idiot when it comes to this sort of thing - remember the KISS principle, Keep It Stupidly Simple.
Now, I would imagine that what would be a good idea, would be to have the choice of setting my own Keywords and to be able to select the appropriate categories in which to have my domain name listed upon the Parking Companies Servers - is this correct, reasoning along these lines? Do all of the Parking Companies allow this? If not, which one do, with I add, the best CTR Click Through Rates and the regular payout?
Ok, moving on. I have a few .com domains and I have a few .co.uk domain names. With the above questions in mind, is it better to go with a Parking Company which is North American based or British based, or does it not really matter?
So now, I/we have our name/s parked. Is there anything else we can do to increase the traffic to the site, if there is, what are the most trusted and proven methods?
A bit of time goes by, and traffic is increasing, the CTR click through rate looks good and by now, some revenue has come through as a result of my efforts. I'm thinking, this could be a good time to think about selling my domain name/s.
Question/s: How does one go about selling a domain name? Assuming it is a good quality name and not something absolutely terrible like cheap-flights-to-majorca.com, is generic based with good keywords, is it better to sell a domain privately, that is approaching directly companies that you think might be interested in it, or do you use the services of an online broker or do you put it into auction?
On the above questions, again reliable, trustworthy, highly competent, companies are wanted on this thread. How do each of the various means add up against one another and what are the pros and cons of each of these methods compared to the others? Which method would you say, has the highest success rates at the best possible price? Also, what is charged by these various mechanisms?
Assuming that anyone in their right mind, wants the greatest exposure for their domain name to industry specific markets directly relating to the name, which methods have worked best for community members here?
What is the timescale involved too with selling a good domain name typically? Assuming now that a buyer has been identified and found, how long does the entire process take to receive the monies due at the agreed price and for the domain name to leave the original owner for possession by the new owner?
If you can think of anymore questions that I should be asking, would you please post them up too, with your answers?
Perhaps when this thread has finally exhausted itself and run it's natural course, another member here and myself can pick all the best questions and the most comprehensive simple answers, replies given and put the whole lot into some cohesive order that is very easy to read and comprehend.
The upshot of doing it this way is that members must get tired of being asked over and over again, the same questions, hopefully at the end of this process, we can simply point new people to this thread, so that they can get an overall gist, understanding of everything that is involved. I realise in advance that it can be rather tiresome for many to keep on answering new individuals threads asking the same things repeatedly.
As stated above, if you know of a really good thread that answers any of these questions, would you please be kind enough to simply cut and paste it, into your reply and/or answer?
Just please, please, please make sure that everything is very easy to understand.
One final utterly absurd question, been driving me up the wall for days - What does BIN stand for?
In advance, many thanks for all your help, very much appreciated.
Kindest regards and best wishes.
Mark
