Was following a domain auction which I was interested in and it ended with the seller sending me an offer. The winning bid was a bidder, bidding 3 times in a row increasing the price from 1k to 1.9k. I'm guessing this was the seller on a second account boosting up the price? He later send me an offer of 1.9k for the domain. Just seems weird.

flippa was down today for a while, you should report the case to flippa so next time it won't happen, but for me i feel here in namepros sellers are bidding in their own auctions what do you think?

yeah I wouldn't doubt it, oldest trick in the auction book. I remember people used to do it on ebay back in the day. Thought these days they had some kind of protection against this. I'm wondering if all of the auctions suffer from this, godaddy, sedo, namejet etc? Anyone know. If so is there any trick to deal with this?

Ill let you know when flippa responds because I just contacted support. Hope you post when namepro's replies.

We do have security procedures and protocols in place at NamePros. Regrettably I am unable to share what all our procedures and protocols are at this time for security reasons to help prevent any educated circumvention.

However, The first line of defense on any marketplace is with you, doing all your research on the domain:
  • check the whois ownership record and maybe send an email to verify they authorized the sale
  • check the members feedback ratings and reviews
  • check the members past sales
  • check to see how long they have been a member
  • make sure that all the domains they have listed have the same whois information
  • report any suspicious activity to staff to investigate further
  • and for larger transactions, use an Escrow service that protects both the buyer and the seller.
If the incident you mentioned happened on NamePros, please report the thread you mentioned by clicking the "Report" link just under the first thread post and provide some details. It would help to also include the link to the private conversation you had with the member so we can investigate further in the report reason box.

Hope that helps,
