Recently I won a domain at Godaddy auction which isn’t registered at Godaddy. All the domains domains I ever bought through GD auctions before were registered at GD, so the domains were automatically transferred to my account after payment authorization. I am not sure how this time the transaction is going to take place.

If any of you ever bought a domain through Godaddy Auctions which wasn't registered at Godaddy, how was the domain transaction handled? Was the transfer done by GD or did you contact the seller for transaction ids & authorization codes?

Thank You

GoDaddy probably have an email link on the domain you won. So I'd start off by contacting the seller. I've actually had the transfer go both ways. I contact the seller and arrange the transfer, and GoDaddy have arranged the transfer. Quite often you find the sales don't complete if the domain is not registered at GoDaddy. My success rate has been less than 50%. YMMV.

I sold one a month ago at godaddy auctions that was registered elsewhere. I gave godaddy the auth code and someone transferred it to godaddy and I was paid.

the domain still has my contact info

Thanks for the replies. There is no email link on the domain I won. I guess I'll have to wait until the 5 days payment authorization period is over to see whether I'll have to contact the seller or GD arranges the transfer.

After the payment authorization period was up, I could see 'email seller' link next to the domain I won, but I didn't receive any email from godaddy that they usually send after verifying payment so instead of contacting the seller, I contacted GD auctions support. I got a reply within an hour that the seller has refused to sell the domain. They have taken action against him according to godaddy TOS, and the payment would be refunded to me within few days.

In my opinion, if you are the buyer, wait for the seller to contact you first because last week when I sold a domain (registered at another registrar) through godaddy auctions, I received an email from GD asking me to contact the buyer to provide domain transfer details and I contacted the buyer so I guess if the seller is genuine, he/she would contact you. But of course there is a possibility of the seller missing the email, so if you don't hear from the seller, then contact the seller or GD support depending on your situation.

Sorry your seller turned out bad.
There's a couple of days left for the payment authorization period to finish....I only wish GD would be more forthcoming in their explanation of the process...'Transaction Assured' is a bit reassuring, let's see what happens.

Yes, they should be more forthcoming in their explanation of the process. There is not much much info about it.

They add the phrase 'Transaction Assured' for all domains listed at the auction, but the truth is that they don't have any control on the domains registered elsewhere so only thing they can assure is refund in case of incomplete transaction.

Hope your transaction goes through successfully. Good luck!
