Does Backordering Draw Attention To The Domain ?

I was wondering if backordering a domain, say on Pool.com, draws any unwanted attention to it ? For example, if Pool.com offers a list of recently backordered domains (I don't know if they do or not).
Obviously they offer a list of "top domains" deleting on a day...so how do they decide what is top or not. Is it backorder interest ?

I do not know if anyone has information as to which domains are backordered. That is an interesting question though.

Pool does, of course. And they'll use that info to generate more interest and profit, naturally. So what's a domainer to do? Place backorders at the last possible minute. Pool responded by instituting the two-step auction, then many domainers responded in turn by abandoning Pool auctions altogether.

I don't know if Pool still has the two-step auction. I haven't been back there in a loooong while.

What's "the last possible minute" ? A couple days ? A couple hours ? Minutes ?

Also, what is a two step auction.
Thanks!

What is "early" to you ?

The 2-step auction was Pool's invention to counter last minute backorders. In phase 1, you have no idea who else (if any) are bidding. Only the top bidders from phase 1 are allowed to proceed to phase 2, where another auction takes place, this time competing bids are displayed.

This process encourages people to bid their max in phase 1, to ensure that they are not shutout of phase 2. And if no one else is seriously bidding in phase 1, you'd end up bidding against yourself.

That said, I visited Pool today after a long hiatus, and couldn't find a trace of their 2-step auctions. Hmm. :-/

I have backorder at pool for a domain that expires on march 29, should I remove the backorder and resubmit it on Mar 28th?

I haven't used Pool yet. I have stuck with Snapnames. Does anyone know if SN does anything similar to what Pool has done?
