Hey All,

I was just wondering how much trust you place on services such as Valuate.com and the like. I know this is often talked about but I just wanted to canvass opinion.

Reason being, I hand reg'd an exact match product domain recently that gets about 10k Google exact searches per month and Valuate.com values the domain at $12K USD.

Interestingly enough Estibot gives the same valuation but I guess they use similar valuation metrics so this is not such a surprise.

Anyway is it fair to assume that I should push for $12K if I wish to sell the domain?

Jim

Valuate is just one of many tools to use when evaluating domains. Yes, the tool does provide an estimate dollar value, but those values must be taken with a grain of salt. As with any auto-appraisal tool out there, there are always kinks and skewed results.

Of course, Valuate.com is one of my go-to tools when it comes to looking up quick stats on domains I am purchasing and/or selling. The main benefit of the tool, at the moment, is that if you name appraises for >$1000 and does not have trademark issues, you can list that domain on BargainDomains (I love this site) at a fraction of the appraised value.

So, in the end, should you push for $12K on your domain? I would say no as the market has placed a value of reg fee on the domain you purchased. This does not mean you cannot sell it for crazy amounts (that does happen with newly regged names at times), you just really need to apply other metrics in analyzing domains.

Also, Valuate and Estibot 2.0 run on the same engine, hence the same results.

In any case your domain name costs as many as your potential buyer is ready to pay for that.

valuate.com and estibot are for noobs. i wouldnt use either one ever. it can actually hurt you. there are names i have that would prob show up as being worth $50 on those services but i still manage to sell for $5k just because i know the value myself. if i followed those sites i wouldnt be making anything.
