Do you feel like you are addicted to buying domains?

Sometimes, I think I might be. Why is it so entertaining to type in a word at [insert registrar here], just to see if it's taken or not?

Thoughts and comments welcome. :)

Yes and no.
I know my limits and cannot reg too many without sales to justify!
I do love me some good domain names though :)

No,

To stop your addiction you need to really start to measure domains using metrics. What I mean is don't just register/buy names you think are great or will be great.

Because a domain can have potential doesn't make it valuable. Finding a domain name that has high exact Google keyword searches, high exact google search results, ads paying for that term, high CPC, etc. denote a good (at the very least) better domain.

It's easy to get sucked into buying a ton of domains that are worth very little. You find out very quickly that it takes some thinking, lots of reading, smart registration/acquisition, and a bit of luck to actually succeed.

So when you want to reg a domain ask yourself why the domain is so great? Hopefully, it's not because it sounds cool, or because you think it's awesome, etc.

Hope that helps. Spend your money wisely.

Yes and No...seeking help (lol)

Getting better at not pulling the trigger but still spend lots more time researching domain drops, avails, etc. then i think pays off, although the domains I've sold have been on the low of $500 ($450 after SEDO %) up to a high of $3200 so still havent hit that payoff yet but still on the hunt.

In fact, wuts sad is that I have about 6 or 7 domains in which I have declined offers of $400 - $550 each over the past 2 years and well prolly shuda taken at least 5 of them.

The rainfinder.com domain in April in all honesty, I forgot I had it (never posted it to sedo nor changed the dns from default) til I got a legit email inquiry about it and it turned into $1300 off a $5.99 NAME.COM purchase.

Yes. Although I believe it to be better than my previous gambling addiction, which took about 17 years to get over.

I agree that it's very important to know your limits, and to do your research before getting into anything.

And great post Skinny.

Not anymore.

1. For some its the want to own something of value and a prospect of future profits. Its like the rush one gets in owning a part of real estate.
2. For others its blind speculation which doesn't need any effort. With a hope that this might be something they might not fail at.
3. For some others its a well thought and planned business niche. the first two help feeding money into the business so that this category can earn off it :\

Actually the chances are probably more like one in a BILLION.

Even highly desirable elite keywords rarely get up to a million and for that you are talking about things that are searched every day in huge volume.

I doubt anyone here is going to pick up computers.com for $10 :p

~~

I am not exactly addicted to buying, but I constantly find myself searching for interesting names :)

I did have an addiction at one point but therapy has cured me, LOL.

It's a matter of realizing what domains have genuine potential...
