Sweeter words, a registrar has never heard spoken.
For those afflicted, this is an insiduous problem. Habit forming is an understatement- *extremely* addictive hits closer to the mark. Thank goodness that only a, relatively, small portion of the population is effected! Writers, wordsmiths, cross-word puzzle and "Jumble" buffs, as well as, vanity license plate namers are, particularly, vulnerable.
There are different levels of addiction and several differnt types of addict.
The disease starts out, innocently, enough. Typically, our would be addict enters a registrars site for the first time and amidst the glittering pixels filled with promises, hope and specials rests, nestled, a small white box and, enblazoned, by it's side are words, such as, "Find It", "Search Here", "Find Your Name", Search for Your Domain, Now!", "You Can Have Your Own Website!" or "Join Millions of Others and Tap Into The World's Fastest Growing Industry." Our unsuspecting victim types in a name. After a moment, a page comes up with the word "Taken" next to a long list of extentions, except for one that appears to have a string of abbreviations and dots behind it. Our future domainer has only noticed .com, .net and .org before- mostly, .com, (which he settles on), so undeterred he types in another name, only to end up with the same results. Thinking it odd, that someone else has actually, registered the name before him, (after all, "this is *me* we're talking about.") he types in another name. !00 attempts later, the words "Congratulations! appears next to his name of choice and he knows he has hit the motherlode. He works his way, frantically, through pages of check-out offers, hoping that no one else will register his gem before he does. With check-out complete, he gives a sigh of relief. He has registered his first domain. He is now the proud owner of, "i-needserioushelp-now.com". He finds the entire experience to be so stimulating that he repeats it, at first, including .net and eventually adding on some of those names with the strange string of initials behind them. He, finally, quits after the message, "We've Experienced A Problem. Your Credit Card Company Declined Payment for Your Order".
He googles to find a place to go where he can have the value of his names appraised. He clicks on a link to "Free Domain Name Appraisals" lands at NamePros and, thus, begins his new life.
