    Hello

I was trying to add few of my domains on Sedo auction but its asking for a fee. Do we need to pay any fee for it?

Also, can you list few domain auction platforms that charge only on successful sale or very low upfront charges like on godaddy.

    Thanks

Im afraid so. My biggest mistake so far have been paying for auctions and showcases on Sedo instead of putting my money where the value is. Burned alot of money in my first week of domaining. Now I will not buy an auction if I dont have a real valuable domain on my hands.

How many domains you have sold? Looks like you have spent alot of money on auctions. Any particular reason why you chose sedo auction over Godaddy Auctions?

None so far (only been at it for three weeks).
I got carried away in the beginning. Just wanted to make sure you dont do the same mistake.
I choose Sedo since I liked their UI better than GoDaddys.

    Hi,

Thanks for your interest in our auctions.

In order to start a Direct Auction with Sedo a fee of 59 USD is required, this is payable regardless to whether the domain sells or not. Only if the domain is sold would we charge a 15% commission on the final sale price.

With a Direct Auction, it is entirely up to you when you auction off your domain and what the minimum price will be. Simply select the starting time and the desired minimum bid and you're done. On matching keyword terms your auction will appear in our domain search and on your very own personal auction page. Towards the end of the auction it will even be shown on the Sedo homepage!

You can start a Direct Auction here: https://sedo.com/order/?product_id=DIRECT_AUCTION&language=us

We do offer an auction which is free to apply for called the Great Domains Auction, however this auction is only reserved for the best domains in the industry. If your domain meets the criteria found in this FAQ: https://sedo-int1.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/777/kw/great domains/search/1 then you can apply for this auction for free.

We wish you the best of luck with your domain sales!

That's what you do best. :xf.grin:(y)

Charge, charge, and charge, regardless to whether domainers make sells or not. Just charge them for everything. And force them to buy appraisal if they ever wants to raise their prices beyond $50k. And force buyers to pay broker's fee even through we are still gonna take 15% from the sales.

Let us make more money charging gullible domainers to list their crappy domains, then flash the domains for 10seconds, few times a day on the home page until 30days is complete.

Thank you for you comments and your opinion.

With all due respect, Sedo is a business, and the same as any other business the intention is to generate revenue for providing a service. We operate similar to other businesses where we offer optional promotional services, increasing the visibility and the chances of the listing selling. All sellers can list domains on our standard marketplace for free and they can stay there for as long as they take to sell. Only if a domain sells would we charge a commission on the standard marketplace.

We don't charge customers for every service, we offer free services to our customers including marketplace auctions, should a seller wish to auction a domain for free, this can be initiated after receiving an offer from a buyer. We have recently completely dropped the 60 USD/EURO minimum commission fee via a promotion meaning sellers can earn twice as much commission with lower valued sales as previously and as I previously stated we offer free listings on our standard marketplace. Currently we are also offering free applications to our Great Domains auction and from time to time we run special auction events which are also free to apply for. Our sales team charge a fee for the buyer side brokerage service, this is because despite their efforts to purchase a domain, negotiations can fall through or may not be reached which could be due to the buyer or the seller, and not due to the brokers work. As you can appreciate, if you are hiring a specialist broker to buy any product for you, then for the time, research and expertise of that broker a payment is required. If using our brokerage service to sell a domain, then there is no contracting fee for this service, so if the domain can not be sold by the broker, then no commission fee is charged.

With regards to your comments about forcing customers to buy appraisals, we do not force any customers to purchase an appraisal, but lets be honest, there has to be some kind of limit to how much sellers can list their domains for on our platform, to keep a certain level of credibility. This is why we have the 50000 limit, a company decision to improve the integrity of the marketplace. If a seller has a domain that they believe is valued at more than 50000 then they can still list the domain as Make Offer with a minimum offer of 50000 and counter-offer with an amount of over 50000, should they receive an offer on the domain. There is no cost for this.

Concerning your last comment about 'crappy domains' and Homepage showcases, I can assure you that domains you may consider to be worthless are in fact worth something to someone else, while they may not sell for excessive high amounts, from time to time, they do sell and more often or not, lots of these sales are generated from our Homepage showcases: which proves that this method is effective in selling domains. More often than not, one time users of Sedo who may not know exactly what they are looking for will first review domains which are listed on the Homepage for inspiration and ideas, and may even end up purchasing a domain there, building their new company brand around the domain they buy.

I hope you can change your mind about Sedo, and I hope this comment will show that we do indeed offer free services. I wish you every success with your domaining. If you want to speak with me about any of the above services then feel free to contact me Chris directly on 0049 221 340 30 230 or email [email protected] and I will be happy to go through the options with you.

    Hello Chris,

I am not against Sedo as a business, either am I against the company making profit as a business. I seek for profit as a businessman too. What we hate, which is what I am complaining about is that Sedo isn't acting as the industry leader they are.

Why is your price for "Auction Listing" and "Home Page Showcase" among the highest in the industry? Yet, you flash those names only for few seconds, few times daily, leaving users with less than impressive exposure.

Why not make enough space at your home page to accommodate as many names as possible since you're charging high prices to feature there? Instead, you dedicate untold amount of empty spaces for bull and few space for actual domain showcase.

Almost every marketplace gives sellers the right to price their domains as high as they want at buy now. Why restrict yours at $50,000? Then turn around and demand for appraisal should sellers wants to raise their buy now price above $50,000. Why?

All I am saying is that you're one of the industry leader. Act it. Don't be the last to make changes. Be ahead in innovation. Think about your users more than as you think about yourself. Your current business model seems to be all about Sedo.

There's reason countless of former dedicated users are going elsewhere. By the way, I still use Sedo but that doesn't mean I am satisfied with the services.

    Peace.
