Do Snapnames, Namejet, Dropcatch, etc engage in Domain Tasting?

Once in awhile I see domains caught by dropcatchers and auction houses without whois data. The domains are parked and typically stay without whois data for awhile. Snapnames does this the most.

Are Snapnames, Namejet, Dropcatch, engaging in domain tasting still? I thought ICANN tried to stop this.

Everyone plays with their ICANN allotted 10% quota.

There is a 10% quota of what? Domains you can send back to registries?

That can also happen when an 3-day auction takes place after the catch.

The whois data will say "No match" usually. Even if a domain is in auction you still see whois info.

Is the response returned by the registry or registrar whois ? Look carefully.
"No match" could mean the domain is simply available for registration.

Registrar whois says "No match for domain" but it used to say "No match for domain in the registrar database".
